Melody Moko Signs With Record Label For Upcoming Release

Melody Moko has signed with Australian label Cheartin’ Hearts/Spunk for her upcoming release.

She shared on social media, “Here it is... My news I’ve been busting to share with you is that I’ve just signed to the fab Australian label @cheatin_hearts_records/@spunkrecs for my upcoming release. The team is an absolute dream and my manager, Karen Waters and I are so stoked to be working alongside them to bring you epic new things. After years of running my own race, flying the independent flag and wearing all the billions of hats, it feels great to be adding some supportive peeps to the crew!”

Moko teased the announcement via social media the day before sharing the exciting news, captioning, “Hang about – super cool news coming. What do you think we got up our sleeve?”

Based in Thirroul, New South Wales, Cheatin’ Hearts Records motto is ‘country, blues, folk, soul and everything in between’. They also represent artists like Georgia State Line, The Redlands and Fenn Wilson as well as On The Beach series and the Thirroul Music Festival.

Born and raised in Adelaide, Moko knew early on that she “wanted to sing like Linda Ronstadt and write songs like Bob Dylan.” With the encouragement from her father, she began travelling around Australia, playing her songs, and winning songwriting awards in her early teens. She later went to the US, where she performed at iconic country music venues such as Nashville’s famous Bluebird Cafe, The Continental Club in Austin, Texas and Hank William’s favourite hangout, Tootsies. 

In 2017, she released her debut album The Wreckage, co-produced by multi-instrumentalist (and partner) Michael Moko and award-winning songwriter Catherine Britt. The album earned her a CMC ‘New Artist’ nomination, and saw her play shows with Fanny Lumsden, The McClymonts and Britt.

Off the back of her 2020 album, Two Kids And A Radio, Moko entered the ARIA Australian Country Albums Chart at #1, #3 ARIA Country Albums, #9 ARIA Australian Albums, #40 ARIA Albums Chart and #1 AIR 100% Independent Albums. She also earned three nominations at the 2021 Golden Guitar Awards – ‘Alt Country Album of The Year’, ‘Female Artist of The Year’ and ‘New Talent of The Year’, taking home the latter.

Her current single, Save Me Rock N’ Roll (the eighth and final single off Two Kids And A Radio) tells the story of a musician, who constantly feels they are falling short regardless of working themself to the bone.
