Wild One by multi–Golden Guitar Award winner, Kirsty Lee Akers is the third single from her sixth studio album, WILD. The fun, driven song with a real 90’s country vibe is our Song of the Day!

Written with Nashville's Phil Barton and Bruce Wallace, Wild One shares the story of Kirsty’s drive, commitment and unending passion for music as a career. Although Kirsty has written about many different themes over her career, she had never written about herself, until now.

Kirsty says, "When I write songs they are normally about friends or family or completely made up stories, but Wild One is the first song I've ever written about myself. This one tells the story of my journey being obsessed with music from the day I was born, and chasing that dream till I can't chase anymore."

Wild One follows on from her previous singles For Love and Outta Here from WILD. Kirsty will soon launch the album with special guest Abbie Ferris at the Tamworth Country Music Festival on Saturday, April 23.

Released on April 15, WILD is the first album released through Kirsty's own independent label, Rider Records. Written and recorded during various stages of the 2020-21 lockdown, the album echoes sentiments experienced by many during that time. From imagining overseas adventures long since cancelled, to freedoms previously taken for granted before COVID-19, and love that kept many homes together. The project delves into many facets of life that humanity dealt with together during this unique time in history.

Following up from her most successful album to date, WILD brings together some of Kirsty's most trusted co-writers in Phil Barton, Trey Bruce, and Bruce Wallace, as well as new colleagues connected with virtually around the world. Kirsty again took the producers’ seat, making her one of the few female, First Nations producers on the country music landscape. In addition to her lead direction, she added long-term band members and skilled musicians in their own right, Dan Ebbels, Paul Bain, and Isaac Kennedy to the mix.

The result is an eclectic, passionate, and heartfelt mix of Kirsty Lee Akers. From her signature modern Country Music stylings, infused with the heritage and roots of Americana, held together by lashings of classic Pop indulgence.

Proud of her Indigenous heritage as a woman of the Wonnarua people (Hunter Valley), Kirsty was born in the small town of Kurri Kurri, NSW. She first performed in public at three-years-old and recorded her first EP at 16. Kirsty is the only artist in history to have won three of the major prizes in Australian country music – Telstra Road To Discover (2006), Toyota Star Maker (2007) and a Golden Guitar Award (2008).

The CMAA Academy of Country Music (2004 and 2005) graduate had success with her albums Little Things (2007), Better Days (2009), Naked (2011) and Burn Baby Burn (2016), and, in 2018, she released her fifth album, Under My Skin – her most successful album to date. The album, which saw her in the producer’s seat for the first time, landed at #3 on the iTunes Country and ARIA Australian Country Albums chart upon release (as well as #5 ARIA Country Album, #8 ARIA Australian Album, and #29 all-genre ARIA Albums chart).

Last year, Kirsty took home her second Golden Guitar Award for her ‘Vocal Collaboration of the Year’ rendition of John Williamson’s True Blue with Amber Lawrence, Aleyce Simmonds and Dianna Corcoran. She also competed on season 17: Fans v Faves of the Logie award-winning renovation reality series, The Block with husband Jesse.
