Front Deck Boom Box: Sarah Leete

1 March 2022 | 1:25 pm | Mallory Arbour

We caught up with country artist, Sarah Leete to find out what songs she’s listening to for this week’s Front Deck Boom Box.

More Sarah Leete More Sarah Leete

Following on from the success of her previous singles and first new tunes in over 3 years One That Got Away and Nothin’ Special (which debuted at #3 on the iTunes Country Singles chart, racking up 150k streams), Sarah Leete has dropped her new single Used.

Originally from the Central Coast, and now calling the small country town of Baan Baa in the Narrabri Shire home, Sarah’s love for music began at a young age. Inspired by the lyrically intelligent storytelling of artists like Cat Stevens, Patty Griffin and Neil Young that she grew up listening to, she began writing her own songs and playing guitar at 13-years-old.

After graduating from CMAA Academy of Country Music in 2016 on a full scholarship, she was awarded a Young Regional Artist Scholarship to record her debut self-titled EP just 8 months later. She has toured extensively through regional and metropolitan Australia, sharing the stage with artists like Fanny Lumsden, Hayley Marsten and The Viper Creek Band.

We caught up with Sarah to find out what songs she’s listening to for this week’s Front Deck Boom Box.

Madi Diaz – Resentment

Madi was definitely an unexpected discovery. I am a HUGE Natalie Hemby fan, and I saw her reference this song once on social media. It is heart-breakingly beautiful and introduced me to Madi’s current album. It’s a song I wish I had written. The best songs are about everyday feelings you can’t convey yourself. This song is almost an equal tie with New Person, Old Place. Check them out.

Maren Morris – Circles Around This Town

I have been a Maren fan since before I was a Maren fan. I follow her Mum on Instagram. I LOVE that these new songs are following her roots and really reflect the songs she released before she was signed. Circles Around This Town is the ULTIMATE driving song and I dare you to not sing this at the top of your lungs while in the car.

Hayley Marsten – Drowning Myself

Can you go wrong with a Hayley Marsten track? The answer is no. She is equally as funny and witty as she is talented. She showed me the demo for this song when I met up with her in Brisbane, when I recorded this last batch of singles, and I am SO excited for her new album and how this song turned out. She’s the real deal.

Raechel Whitchurch – Sure Thing (reimagined)

I saw Raechel for the first time at Fanny Lumsden’s Country Halls Tour stop in Quirindi. I remember this song sticking out to me. I love this reimagined version of such a simple love song, and I am a massive fan of all that Raechel (and Ben) do! Can’t wait to see them out this way again in the future. This song is on repeat.

The Weeping Willows – House of Sin

I cannot say enough good things about The Weeping Willows. I don’t think it would be an understatement that they are the nicest people in country music. I have heard this track a few times live. I was so excited by their recent video clip. It’s so good. I am a real sucker for a story and these guys tick all of the boxes.
