Just weeks after sharing a teaser that sounded more country than anything she’d ever written in the past, Lana Del Rey has officially revealed that she’s releasing a country album this year.

On Wednesday (31 January), at a Billboard pre-Grammy Awards event, she alluded to her first-ever country album, Lasso, which is reportedly arriving in September.

“If you can’t already tell by our award winners and our performers, the music business is going country,” she said (per Rolling Stone). “We’re going country. It’s happening. That’s why [producer] Jack [Antonoff] has followed me to Muscle Shoals, Nashville, Mississippi, over the last four years.”

Last month, Del Rey shared a snippet of a tender acoustic ballad called Henry, Come On. In the social media post, she tagged producer Luke Laird – known for his works with Carrie Underwood, Kacey Musgraves, Tim McGraw, and many more.

In the snippet, she sang, “Henry, come on / Did I really choose it? / All this off and on, Henry, come on / Baby, come on / Do you think I’d really lose it on ya? / If you did nothing wrong, Henry, come on”. You can listen to the stripped-back tune below.

Del Rey’s Instagram comments section was packed with excitement, with fans leaving messages like “country era is coming” and “Ah, so is this what you’ve been cooking up here down south?” – referencing the singer’s stint in Alabama, including waitressing at a Waffle House – “Ooo my let me saddle up!” and “Come on and giddy up”.

This April, Lana Del Rey will headline Coachella Music & Arts Festival in California along with Tyler, The Creator, Doja Cat and a reformed No Doubt.

Coachella will take place over two weekends – 12-14 April and 19-21 April – at its home ground of the Empire Polo Grounds in Indio, California. 2024 marks the 23rd edition of the festival.

While it’s easy to feel FOMO surrounding Coachella from the other side of the globe, the festival will once again partner with YouTube for exclusive live streams on both weekends.

Del Rey released her ninth album, Did You Know That There's A Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd, last March. The album went on to debut at #1 on the ARIA Albums and Vinyl Chart, giving the singer her fifth #1 album in Australia.

In addition to her chart success, the album has been nominated for five awards at the 2024 Grammys: Album of the Year and Best Alternative Music Album, while two singles have received nominations, A&W (for Song of the Year and Best Alternative Music Performance) and Candy Necklace feat. Jon Batiste (for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance).
