Keith Urban, Lainey Wilson, and Jelly Roll are among the first performers to take the stage at this year’s CMT Awards. They’ll be joined by Bailey Zimmerman and Sam Hunt, as well as the already-announced performer and host Kelsea Ballerini.

Urban’s performance is a big deal. The Australian singer-songwriter is making history as the first artist to perform at the CMT Awards 20 (!) times. He’ll play a rendition of his single Straight Line from his forthcoming unnamed 12th album.

Meanwhile, Wilson will perform her latest track, Country’s Cool Again, per Billboard, Hunt is set to debut an unreleased song, Zimmerman will perform his single, Where It Ends, for the first time, and Jelly Roll will sing after an absolutely massive year.

Jelly Roll, Kelsea Ballerini, Lainey Wilson, Cody Johnson and Megan Moroney are the artists with the most nominations ahead of next month’s awards, each receiving three nominations apiece.

The fan-voted CMT Awards is happening on Sunday, 7 April, at the Moody Centre in Austin, Texas. The award ceremony will air live on CBS and stream live and on demand on Paramount+.

The coveted Video of the Year award has 16 nominees, with the category shrinking to six on 1 April (following initial fan votes), and the top three nominees announced the day before the awards take place.

After rocking the CMC Rocks stage over the weekend, Lainey Wilson remains in Australia as she headlines a bunch of sideshows in Melbourne and Sydney. Before she arrived, though, she received a royal send-off from her fellow CMT Awards performer, Keith Urban.

Posting a video of Urban picking her up and driving her to the airport, the pair shared a conversation about what to expect from her Australian trip. Urban asked Wilson, “What’s the first thing you think of when you think of Australia?” to which she replied, “You,” and the two burst into laughter.

At the end of the video, the two hugged, and Urban wished Wilson a safe journey.

Last month, Jelly Roll announced the Beautifully Broken tour – his biggest-ever headline jaunt – taking on 37 cities across the US with special guests Warren Zeiders and Alexandra Kay. There are hopes he’ll bring the tour to Australia soon, given he’s still yet to perform live on our shores.
