Every week, ABC Country's Grass Roots program shines a light on the best independently released Australian country content. Selected from the hundreds of new tracks submitted, the one-hour program is now available on demand as well as premiering each Monday at 9pm on ABC Country, showing the health of Aussie country music across all its sub-genres. Here are four of this week's tracks you should have on your radar.

Head here to have a listen to this week’s full episode of Grass Roots.

Good Corn Liquor – The Junction

Country, bluegrass and blues outfit Good Corn Liquor hail from Gunnedah, NSW. Their latest track was written in 2017 when lead vocalist Murph moved to the titular Newcastle suburb The Junction.

The people mentioned in the song reflect those he was living with at the time. One was struggling with the effects of tall poppy syndrome from small town life, another with some heavy news of their mother’s health, which encouraged some lifestyle changes, and finally a lover’s tiff and their expectations of each other that, ultimately, they couldn’t manage. “Two weeks down and too drunk to function” is exactly as it suggests, and Murph moved out three months later – but he got a great song out of the experience!

Sammy White – Henhouse

Co-written with Melanie Dyer, Henhouse is the feisty new single from 2020 Star Maker winner Sammy White. Of the track, White says “it's for all the outsiders who ruffle a few feathers by just doing you". White recently kicked off her east coast tour of Australia with the next stop being in Victoria this weekend.

Allan Caswell – Take Your Time

Allan Caswell is one of Australia's most loved and respected singer-songwriters. Earlier this year he was elevated to the Roll of Renown, the highest accolade in Australian country music. Caswell's latest release, Take Your Time, was co-written with producer Damian Cafarella, demoed and promptly forgotten about until Caswell stumbled upon the track during a recent tour. He reminded Damian of the song, who promptly took the demo and built the track around Caswell's original vocal.
