Fancy Hagood, who is known for his self-described brand of "queer Southern pop," has teamed up with Kacey Musgraves on a new song.

Written by Hagood with Little Big Town’s Karen Fairchild and Alysa Vanderhyem, the new track, Blue Dream Baby, was released in honour of International Pride Day (June 28).

Hagood shared on social media, “This intergalactic extravaganza is brought to you by @skybabycartoons! I want to thank [Kacey] for being the sexiest cartoon I’ve ever seen and for throwing down on the track! It’s a dream come true when you get to put magic out into the world… but to get to do it with one of your besties is just a level of special I could stay high on!”

He continued, “Kacey is such a trailblazer and has created so much room in this town for queer expression and art. I have felt the effects of the change she has helped create not only in my career but in my personal life as well. Kacey made me feel seen long before we were friends and I’m so honoured to share a track with such a legend… I feel so honoured to be surrounded by such talented, strong, inspiring women. As a queer male this town hasn’t always been the easiest of places for me to feel confident or comfortable in my own skin!”

The song quickly garnered attention from fans and other artists, including Kelsea Ballerini, Caylee Hammack, Lindsay Ell, Brooke Eden, Tenille Townes, Brittney Spencer and more.

Hagood shared that the collaboration came together, in part, thanks to Musgraves' boyfriend.

“Kacey and I share stuff we’ve written from time to time with each other, but it was actually her boyfriend who heard Blue Dream Baby first,” said Hagood in a press release. “He told her about it, and later that night, she and I were texting, when she asked to hear it.”

Hagood added, “To my absolute amazement she was super into it, and the rest is history. I’m still pinching myself that I get to put out a song in the world with someone who is not only one of my favourite artists, but also one of my closest friends. It doesn’t get any more special than this.”

In the video, animated by Skylar Wilson, cartoonish versions of Hagood and Musgraves are off on a “cosmic” trip together, complete with a “Spacey Kacey” in a psychedelic spaceship, as the two party the night away with a world of extra-terrestrials.

Blue Dream Baby follows Hagood's Bored. He also collaborated with Abby Anderson for the reimagined version of her song, Where Did All the Cowboys Go, released in April.
