Cody Johnson’s forthcoming new album will feature a duet with Carrie Underwood.

When asked during the CMT Music Awards nominee special how he felt being nominated in the ‘Video of the Year’ category as Underwood – the most-awarded artist in CMT history with 25 wins, Johnson casually dropped the news about the collaboration.

"I actually just recorded a duet with her yesterday for my new album coming out," Johnson said during the interview. "And getting to know her, man, she's such a pro and everybody that she surrounds herself with are all very professional as well. So, it's kind of ... I don't mean this to sound bad, but it's kind of hard to compete with that."

The night’s most-coveted ‘Video of the Year’ award was whittled down to the top six finalists from the original list of 16 nominees. The nominees are Blake Shelton (No Body), Underwood (Hate My Heart), Johnson (Human), HARDY featuring Lainey Wilson (wait in the truck), Kane Brown and Katelyn Brown (Thank God) and Morgan Wallen (You Proof).

This year’s top six sees Underwood competing for her fifth consecutive ‘Video of the Year’ win and tenth overall in the category. Should Kane and Katelyn Brown win, they would make history as the first husband and wife duo to win the coveted award.

Johnson and Underwood will also perform on the CMT Music Awards stage from Austin, Texas’ Moody Center on Sunday, April 2. Hosted by Kane Brown and Kelsea Ballerini, country music’s only fan-voted awards show will also feature The Black Crowes and Darius Rucker, Jelly Roll, Tyler Hubbard, Wynonna and Ashley McBryde, Blake Shelton, Katelyn Brown, Carly Pearce, Keith Urban, Lainey Wilson and more. Avery Anna, Chapel Hart, Jackson Dean, Lily Rose, Megan Moroney and Nate Smith will also perform from the Ram Trucks Side Stage.

In addition, in celebration of the 10th anniversary of its storied “CMT Next Women of Country” (NWOC) franchise, Alanis Morissette will make her CMT Music Awards debut alongside NWOC alum Ingrid Andress, Lainey Wilson, Madeline Edwards and Morgan Wade, plus Jackie Venson on guitar, for a can’t-miss, world premiere performance of female-empowerment anthem You Oughta Know.

Gwen Stefani will also make her CMT debut with a special one-of-a-kind performance alongside Pearce for the duo’s first-ever on-stage collaboration, and Shania Twain will be recognised with the third-ever “CMT Equal Play Award,” which recognizes an artist who is a visible and vocal advocate for elevating diverse and underrepresented voices in country music.

Lainey Wilson is the leading nominee, with four nods, including ‘Video Of The Year’, ‘Female Video Of The Year’, ‘Collaborative Video Of The Year’ and ‘CMT Performance Of The Year’.

Cody Johnston, Kane Brown and Jelly Roll follow, each with three nominations.
