Australian alt-country singer Bud Rokesky has announced an exciting release method for his forthcoming music.

Taking to social media yesterday, Rokesky revealed that he’d be releasing two new songs today—Newtown and Oars—he also detailed his release plan for the rest of the year, telling fans that he’d explore his influences across country, folk and alternative music by releasing songs every month for the rest of 2024.

Newtown and Oars are out now, with the former acting as an A-side single and the latter as a B-side he (and his fans) wouldn’t want to do without.

Rokesky said about the ambitious release plan in a press release, “When thinking about a follow-up album to Outsider, I had a list of 24 or so songs to choose from, except they seemed so varied from one another that I found it difficult to find a common selection, not to mention I really wanted to release them all.

“I thought—what would be the best way to introduce them to everyone so they could follow along with the different changes in sound or style from song to song?”

To showcase the new project, Rokesky explored his new-wave influences on the soaring country tune Newtown, while Oars finds the singer behind an acoustic guitar for an emotive ballad—both songs as gorgeous as each other. Check them out below.

Rokesky’s new music follows the release of his 2023 debut album, Outsider, which saw him team up with Matt Corby and Alex Henriksson at Corby’s Rainbow Valley Studios to deliver a country-meets-Americana-influenced LP.

Tonight, Rokesky opens for Brad Cox on his Yarns & Yodels regional Australian tour, taking new and old songs to Mackay as the tour continues throughout this month, May and June. You can find more details about that tour here.
