Bella Mackenzie has successfully passed the Battles round on this season of The Voice Australia, with the Mackay country singer sent to the Semi-Finals.

On Guy Sebastian’s team, Mackenzie put away her guitar for the Battles and sang the Maren Morris and Hozier track The Bones with fellow contestant Jaydean Miranda.

Previously on the night, Sebastian’s contestant Charlie Pittman secured the first Semi-Final spot on the team, leaving Mackenzie and another contestant, Marley Sola, to “sing for their lives” for the second Semi-Final place.

While Sola sang This City by Sam Fischer, Mackenzie put her own spin on a Journey classic, Don’t Stop Believin’. Sebastian chose Mackenzie to go through to the Semi-Final round with Pittman following her sing-for-your-life performance – you can watch her rendition of Don’t Stop Believin’ and her Battle performance of The Bones below.

“Jaydean you are amazing! I love you and appreciate being able to share the stage with you,” Mackenzie wrote on Instagram yesterday (10 September).

“Thank you so much Guy Sebastian for trusting me and sending me to the Semi-Finals. Marley you are unbelievable and I will forever look up to you as a musician and person. See you in the semis!!”

Bella Mackenzie is representing country music on the 2023 season of The Voice Australia.

While The Voice Australia is primarily aimed at amateur singers, Mackenzie is poised to find mainstream appeal after she earned two places on the Top 50 Most Played Songs on Australian country music radio in 2022.

In 2021, she became the inaugural winner of the Groundwater Country Music Festival KIX-Start Competition, earning praise and recognition from one of Australia's most successful country music festivals and Australian country music radio.

“From the moment I did my first ever gig, the support has been amazing,” Mackenzie said in a 2021 My Countrytown feature on her hometown of Mackay. “The arts community in Mackay is outstanding, and I am so blessed to be a part of this growing culture in my hometown.”
