More Matt Ward More Matt Ward

Matt Ward has a new single coming out on June 30th, a sultry duet with Taasha Coates of The Audreys. We have your first listen of Two To Tango in this exclusive Countrytown online premiere.

Two To Tango portrays an intoxicating conversation between a man and woman teetering on the brink of passion, Two To Tango effortlessly blends the polish of these ARIA award-winning and #1 chart-topping artists with the raw energy of their brilliant live performances.

Musically it possesses a gentle swing and sway, bolstered by the gentle pedal steel serenade that adds a late-night dreaminess to the song's country-rock slow dance – continuing the grand tradition of Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris.

Ward kicked off the new year with the single Nobody Told Me, a song that drew on the rich history of uniquely Australian songwriting that successfully took elements of alt-country and folk music, bathed them in the landscape, big skies and red desert highways of this sunburnt country and created a sound that was poetic and highly evocative, countrified melodic rock.

Off the back of his debut #1 ARIA success with Heartland (with producer Matt Fell), Ward's Texas-recorded album, If I Was In Dallas Tonight, strengthened his songwriting reputation.

Ward has backed up his superb releases, which included recordings with Kate Brianna and US outlaw country artist Bonnie Montgomery, with heavyweight performances as a headline artist at the 2021 Groundwater Music Festival, a showcase artist at Nashville's Bluebird Café (Americanafest 2019) and Australian Music Week, and gigs at high profile venues such as The Barn Wombat Flat (2021).

Ward is currently recording music with both The Rising Sons in Adelaide and a studio album with Fell in Tasmania, with plans to release a new full-length album in 2024.

Earlier this year, Ward established the Heartland Music Australia record label to “create a safe, dedicated and long-term home for Australian Country and Americana songwriters in Australia.” The first artists to formally come on board included lauded singer-songwriters Amber Rae Slade (US/Tas), Nathan Seeckts (Vic) and Harvey Russel (NSW).

“Heartland Music Australia is excited to be on the cusp of releasing some outstanding new Australia Country and Americana music,” Ward said. “In the longer term, HMA will provide opportunities for both established and emerging talent to navigate the increasingly complex world of digital music releases.”
