Top 5 ‘Kellyoke’ Covers Including Keith Urban, Carrie Underwood & More!

On June 9, Kelly Clarkson will release an EP consisting of six songs she has covered during her ‘Kellyoke’ segment on her variety series, The Kelly Clarkson Show. The season 1 American Idol winner has performed hit songs by artists like Blake Shelton, Ed Sheeran, Stevie Nicks, John Legend, Harry Styles, Lady A,  Rascal Flatts, Faith Hill, Elton John, Taylor Swift and more!

“Music is in the DNA of everything I do, so when The Kelly Clarkson Show started, we knew it was the perfect way to kick off every episode,” Clarkson said. “Over 500 songs later, and we’re still not running out of amazing artists to pay tribute to. Picking just six was near-impossible, but these songs have been some of my favourites. Thanks for singing along with me y’all!”

To celebrate the exciting announcement, we thought we’d dive into the ‘Kellyoke’ back catalogue and share our top five country favourites!

1. Keith Urban’s Raining On Sunday

Written by Radney Foster and Darrell Brown for Foster’s 1999 album, See What You Want To See, with background vocals from Darius Rucker; the song was made famous by Urban, who covered it on his 2002 album, Golden Road. It peaked at #3 on the US Hot Country Songs Chart.

2. Kelsea Ballerini’s Peter Pan

Peter Pan was the third single from Ballerini’s 2015 debut solo album, The First Time. Written with Forest Glen Whitehead and Jesse Lee, the track is about lost love being compared to the song’s namesake as a metaphor for being immature and tending to run off to his own fantasy.

3. Carrie Underwood’s Before He Cheats

Written by Chris Tompkins and Josh Kear for Underwood’s 2005 debut album, Some Hearts, the song tells of a woman taking revenge on her potentially unfaithful boyfriend/husband. Before He Cheats remains the eighth longest-charting single in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

4. Dolly Parton’s Jolene

Jolene was first released in 1973 as the first single and title track from Parton’s album of the same name. According to Parton, the song was inspired by a red-headed bank clerk who flirted with her husband Carl Dean at his local bank branch around the time they were newly married.   

5. Kacey Musgraves’ High Horse

Incorporating elements of disco, High Horse was Musgraves’ first song to crossover to pop radio, debuting and peaking at #39 on the Adult Pop Songs airplay chart. Co-written with Trent Dabbs and Tom Schleiter, the song featured on Musgrave’s studio album, Golden Hour.

Since its premiere in 2019, The Kelly Clarkson Show has won a handful of awards including six Daytime Emmy Awards. It has earned nominations for a further nine Daytime Emmy Awards in 2022, with winners to be announced on June 24.

She also became the first artist in history to top each of Billboard's pop, adult contemporary, adult pop, country, and dance charts.

Clarkson has sold over 25 million albums and 45 million singles worldwide, served as a coach on The Voice US and has won numerous awards – including three MTV Video Music Awards, four American Music Awards, two CMA Awards and three EMMY Awards. 

In the past couple of years, Clarkson has released songs with Jake Hoot and Brett Eldredge.
