CountryTown is proud to announce award-winning singer-songwriter and staunch Country traditionalist, Blake Dantier as our Artist Of The Week, following the release of his debut album Dry Season.

Growing up in the suburbs, sandwiched between Sydney’s west and the Blue Mountains, Blake started playing drums at 12 years old, and formed his first band with his older brother a year later. He later picked up new instruments and started songwriting. Blake played with the high school band for 5 or 6 years, playing more pub gigs than can count, while competing in local talent competitions.

2020 was a big year for Blake, with two singles gaining him plenty of national exposure and attention. He was the winner of the ‘Country Rock Song of the Year’ category at the Tamworth Songwriters Salute Awards. His single Ash and Dust was added to high rotation on ABC Country, Kix Country and CMT upon release and spent 9 weeks in Countrytown Hot 50 Country Airplay Chart peaking at #24, with his follow up single I’d Do It Again spending 9 weeks in Countrytown Hot 50 Country Airplay Chart peaking at #14.

The following year, he was the winner of two Tamworth Songwriters Salute Awards. He shares the wins with his fiancé and fellow country music star, Cass Hopetoun, with whom he wrote the #1 airplay hit Typical Bride. His single, Last Call peaked at #8 on the Countrytown Hot 50 Country Airplay Chart. Wish You Were My Beer, which received extensive radio airplay, followed.

His current single, Don’t Say When (the sixth from Dry Season) reveals a more sensitive side to Blake.

Blake says, “It’s got to be the most personal track on the album. I wrote Don’t Say When for my Grandad, who passed a few years back. Grandad was a lover of fine scotch and red wine, but I’d always been too young to share a drink with him. This song is about having that drink - cracking open a bottle, starting to pour and not saying when.”
