Earlier this week, we mentioned the unusual pairing of Miranda Lambert and Elle King with their new single, Drunk (And I Don’t Wanna Go Home), but we were unprepared for the odd collaboration that lay before us … Actor and comedian Leslie Jordan is releasing a star-studded duets album called Company’s Comin’, set for release on April 2.

The project was inspired by Jordan’s weekly Sunday Mornin’ Hymn Singin live stream, and features Jordan performing gospel hymns alongside country artists TJ Osborne (Brothers Osborne), Tanya Tucker, Travis Howard, and Katie Pruitt, with more to be announced. The first single from the project, Angel Band features Grammy winner Brandi Carlile.

Company’s Comin’ is co-produced by Nashville songwriters/multi-instrumentalists Travis Howard and Danny Myrick and is made up of traditional hymns and brand-new originals, with a playful mix of righteous gospel, classic country, vintage soul and Americana/roots influences.

Jordan says, “My dear friend Travis Howard and I would get together on Sundays to sing these old hymns just because we loved them. Somewhere along the way, my business partner, Mike Lotus, took a real interest in what we were doing and started looking up and learning about every old Baptist hymn he could find. I think he realised, like we did, that the songs held something brilliant about the human condition and were a deep comfort to anyone who heard them, religious or not. He started posting our performances online, and the response was just incredible.”

Raised Southern Baptist in East Tennessee, the 65-year-old actor is most known for his Emmy Award winning role as Beverly Leslie on the sitcom Will and Grace. He also had a role in the 2011 Academy Award-nominated period drama, The Help, and appeared in the third season of American Horror Story opposite Hollywood heavyweights Jessica Lange, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Sarah Paulson, and Francis Conroy.

He was next set to star in a new series called Call Me Kat. With filming halted due to the 2020 pandemic, Leslie took to Instagram with his daily slice-of-life videos. His popularity skyrocketed as he racked up more than five million followers in a matter of months, adding viral sensation to his ever-long, impressive resume.

Jordan is also set to launch his Apple Music Country show Hunker Down Radio with Leslie Jordan on February 28, and has a autobiography, How Y’all Doing? due for release from April 27.
