Rising singer-songwriter Triston Marez has teamed up with legend, Ronnie Dunn, of Brooks & Dunn fame, on his latest single Where The Neon Lies, off his self-titled debut album, which was released on April 16. The neo-traditional country song with a touch of a 90s sound is our Song of the Day!

Written by Marez with Chris DuBois and Lynn Hutton, Where The Neon Lies is about the games that a little bit of booze from a neon sign-lit bar can play with a broken heart.

Speaking of the single to Holler, Marez said, "I was going through a breakup with a girl from West Texas. She was out in Nashville for the summer and had to go back to college at Texas Tech. Because of that, I had this idea for Where The Neon Lies thinking she'll be coming back. You know, you're at the bar, you start drinking and start thinking that there's still a chance that maybe she'll come back.”

He adds, “When we were recording vocals my manager Alex Torrez said, ‘Man, Ronnie Dunn would sound killer on this song.’ We all started laughing like, ‘Yeah, that'd be awesome.’ Alex said he was going to shoot an email. I thought he was joking, but sure enough, Ronnie emailed Alex back. I couldn't believe it … I don't think I'm ever going to get over it.”

As a member of a musical family from Oklahoma known for their bluegrass and fiddle talents, Marez started playing guitar at age six and his first live performance was in a first-grade talent show. Working as a ranch hand to support his music career, Marez won the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo’s talent competition in 2014, which prize included a day of studio time, during which he recorded his first two singles.

The Houston-native later moved to Nashville at the age of 18 and released two EPs. His debut album is his first full-length project, of which he co-wrote nine out of its 12 songs (one of the remaining three was written by Chris Stapleton). In addition to Dunn, the album features the Tex-Mex band Squeezebox Bandits.
