Our Song of the Day is What The Stars See by Grammy-nominated, platinum-certified singer-songwriter, Cassadee Pope featuring Karen Fairchild from Little Big Town and Lindsay Ell. Co-written by Cassadee alongside Jake Rose and Lindsey Rimes, What The Stars See beautifully expresses the desire to peek into someone’s life who is no longer part of your own.

Cassadee says, “I was inspired to write What The Stars See after sitting outside one night looking up at the stars, curious what their perspective might be looking down on us. It made me think back to times in my life when I had just come out of a relationship but still felt so connected to the other person. I imagined having the superpower to be among the stars and observe, from their perspective, an ex moving on with their life (or not).”

What the Stars See was co-produced by Nick Wheeler (of All-American Rejects) and Fairchild. The genre-blend song marks almost ten years since Cassadee’s departure from pop-punk band, Hey Monday.

Cassadee posted on Instagram, “I really did some reflecting last year, like everybody I’m sure, and what I stumbled upon is I know that pop punk/pop rock music is just as much a part of my musical makeup as country music. And instead of trying to water down either, I’ve decided I’ll just blend them, and I’ve created something that I’m so proud of and I just feel so authentic doing.”

What The Stars See is Cassadee’s first release since the 2020 EP, Rise and Shine. The single is the first taste of music from her upcoming project, which will combine her pop-punk roots with the country storytelling she loves.

Cassadee embarked on a solo career in early 2012, winning the third season of The Voice US. She released her first solo country album, Frame by Frame in 2013, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 Top Country Albums chart. The following year, she toured with Tim McGraw and Dierks Bentley.

In 2015, Cassadee teamed with Chris Young on the duet, Think Of You, off his album, I’m Comin’ Over. The song was nominated for ‘Best Country Duo/Group Performance’, making her first contestant from The Voice to receive a Grammy nomination. Cassadee also released the EP, Summer in 2016 and her second full-length album, Stages in 2019.
