We pegged singer-songwriter Taylor Acorn as a TikTok country artist you need to know – and her latest single is our Song of the Day. Written by Taylor and Andrew Pacheco, True Crime is a relatable and hauntingly beautiful song about still being in love with the person who stole your heart.
Taylor says, “From recording vocals for the first time to hearing it on the radio for the first time … the day Andrew and I wrote this song we truly believed we had created something so special and I am overwhelmed with love and gratitude … I haven’t been this excited since 2017.”
After the loss of her father at just eight-years-old, Taylor turned to writing songs in her journal as a coping mechanism. She taught herself to play guitar at 16, and eventually began competing in local talent shows. After receiving an overwhelmingly positive response to her covers of popular songs on YouTube, Taylor auditioned for both American Idol and The Voice.
She released her debut EP Put Me In A Song and single of the same name in 2017. As well as her recorded covers (Unwell by Matchbox 20, I Write Sins Not Tragedies by Fall Out Boy and Your Body Is A Wonderland ft. David Ryan by John Mayer), Taylor released a series of singles including Red White, Back To You, I’m With You and Therapy. Paper Airplanes, It’s Not This, Sinister and Somebody Else followed in 2020. True Crime is her second release for the year, following Are We.
As well as her original songs, the Nashville-based artist has been garnering attention on TikTok for her covers of rock and emo songs including Numb by Linkin Park, Hear You Me by Jimmy Eat World, Helena by My Chemical Romance and others. In March 2021, her acoustic cover of Papa Roach’s Scars even caught the attention of the band’s guitarist. Furthermore, her cover of Bulletproof Love by Pierce The Veil was tweeted by the band’s record label and got the approval from lead singer, Vic Fuentes.
