Trisha Yearwood raised an impressive $24,000 in just 15 minutes for an animal charity on Monday. The country singer took to talkshoplive on January 17 to raise money for her own Dottie's Yard Fund charity as part of the #BettyWhiteChallenge.

"Seriously, thank you for being a friend and doing the #BettyWhiteChallenge with me!" tweeted Yearwood. "We raised over $24k in 15 minutes and the donations are still coming in!"

The challenge is an online movement spearheaded by fans calling on people to donate money to animal shelters and other animal charities in honour of the late comedy legend and actress Betty White, who passed away late last month ahead of her 100th birthday.

Yearwood said, “I just think Betty right now is so happy that this is the way that the world is choosing to celebrate her birthday by giving to animals which was so near and dear to her heart. I don’t know who started the #BettyWhiteChallenge, but we accepted it.”

She adds, "Everybody loves Betty White. I've been reading about the influx of donations to pet charities and shelters across the nation since Betty's passing, and I think she is up there smiling so big that this is how the world is showing her how much we love her."

In the video, Yearwood was joined by her two rescue dogs, Millie and Emmy, who sat quietly beside her. She started Dottie’s Yard Fun in 2021 to honour her and husband Garth Brooks’ late dog, Dottie.

Yearwood also provided an option for people who could not spare any money but could provide other services instead. “If you can't donate money, everybody has a shelter. There's a local shelter in your area or humane association. You can volunteer, you can drop off supplies,” she said, naming off old towels, dog beds, food or “anything else that you can come by.”
