This Album Changed My Life: Taylor Moss on Keith Urban’s The Story So Far

18 November 2021 | 10:10 am | Mallory Arbour

We caught up with Australian Country singer-songwriter Taylor Moss and asked her to tell us about an album that changed her life.

More Taylor Moss More Taylor Moss

Taylor Moss first entered a recording studio at the age of 15 with her debut single Stuck In My Head in 2012, and has been travelling to Nashville once a year since she was 18. She got her break winning the Urban Country Music Festival talent quest in 2012 and was later named a finalist in the 2015 Toyota Star Maker competition at the Tamworth Country Music Festival. Her last three singles – Ain’t No Girly Girl, You Ain’t Getting A Song and Chaser – have racked up over 2.8 million streams

The Australian Country singer-songwriter recently released her new single, Get It Girl. One for the ladies, the confessional, power anthem speaks of a different kind of unconditional love – the unspoken language and innate understanding shared between a woman and her girlfriends. Lyrically, the track celebrates the female relationships that have shaped, grounded and comforted Taylor through the highs and lows and have grown her into the person she is today.

Taylor Moss on Keith Urban’s The Story So Far

"When I was growing up, my parents used to take me to Sanity CD store in my home town of Ulladulla, on the South-East coast of NSW. I was lucky enough to be allowed to get myself a new CD when we went there. My first ever purchase was Gwen Stefani’s Hollaback Girl (single edition).  I used to love listening to it on repeat on my Walkman. My second CD purchase was In Blue by The Corrs. Breathless was my all-time favourite song.

The album that I feel changed my life though has to be Keith Urban’s compilation album, The Story So Far. It was released in 2012 from memory. I have treasured memories of when we used to go on family holidays to visit Noosa in Queensland. We would drive from Ulladulla and travel via the inland route, passing through Tamworth. We stopped into the Golden Guitar and purchased that Keith Urban album. We listened to it on repeat for the whole trip, to and from home. I had learnt every song lyric by the time we got home. This album definitely holds a few special moments in my heart – all the time spent together as a family and bonding while listening to the record – but I also love every single song. I do have some favourites which are Tonight I Wanna Cry, Somebody Like You, Kiss A Girl, Long Hot Summer and Days Go By

I’m a massive Keith Urban fan. I have continued to follow him and his music releases over the years – he just continues to write incredible songs. He has inspired me so much as an artist. I feel like this album changed my life by encouraging me to be a good song writer and capture a listener’s attention by writing songs that people can relate to."
