More Jade Holland More Jade Holland

Jade Holland has been consistently sharing her story with audiences across the globe over the past three years with singles like the multi-million streaming, Drive Thru, International Award winning That’s The Wine, the 2019 charting Townsville flood appeal charity song Lives on the Lawn and 2020’s breakout hit, Do It Right. She released her second album Dream Wild in 2019 to critical acclaim, and has racked up more than two million streams on Spotify to date.

The country-pop singer-songwriter recently released her charitable new single Fight For It, with all proceeds going to the Mental Awareness Foundation, of which Jade is an ambassador. The track, which debuted at no. 3 on the iTunes Country Songs Chart on release day, shines light on mental health and encourages people to keep fighting.

We caught up with Jade and asked her to tell us about an album that changed her life.

Jade Holland on Kasey Chamber’s The Captain

As a kid, I didn’t know what I wanted to be. When I was about 11 years old, when we were at an open mic night and a friend of mine got up to sing, I said to mum and dad that I wanted to be a singer, haha. They said, “Oh we don’t know if you can sing or not.” I said, “Well, I will have to learn!”

My first ever country album that I bought with my pocket money was Kasey ChambersThe Captain. The title track, The Captain, was the first ever song I sang, and it was my introduction to country music. I felt like, as a young girl, I could easily relate to every single song on this album. I was born and raised in North Queensland in the bush and, when Southern Kinda Life would come on, it felt like I was living it!

It's actually funny how I felt every single song on this album as a child and how I relate to it now. It's a different feeling now that I have grown up. All the songs have a different meaning to me, but they are all still so relevant. If anything, this album inspired the creative side of me. I wanted to write about the real things like Kasey does and I wanted people to feel the meaning behind the words like Kasey made me feel them.

From hearing Kasey through my childhood years to when I met her as a young adult, I’ve gone from hearing her authenticity to actually seeing it. Her music and this album have inspired me not only through my music, to stay true to myself as an artist but also, I have tried to always be myself, in music, on social media and in person. I always want to be authentically me!
