Co-written with Nelly Joy and Jason Reeves, and produced by Aaron Eshuis, Sober & Skinny by up-and-coming country artist, Brittney Spencer is both optimistic and melancholy – and is our Song of the Day!

Spencer says, "Sober & Skinny started as a quirky story-idea that I started writing from my bed. It’s the story of a couple, where each wants the other to change something about themselves. The song goes back and forth between facing reality and fantasising of a perfect world where things could suddenly become better if only this couple aims for a sort of perfection that probably doesn’t exist. Songs like this one make me want to keep writing stories."

In relation to the clip directed by Nicki Fletcher and Darryl Hargrove, she adds, "the passion and the theatrics displayed throughout the video amplify the emotion in the song. The video gave me an opportunity to act out the emotions that I felt when we were writing Sober & Skinny … This is my first time actually making a video for one of my songs. Filming this video felt so seamless. It was effortless, and it felt pretty magical getting to see myself perform. I’m really proud of this song and the journey it’s taking my collaborators and me on."

Sober & Skinny follows her 2020 EP Compassion, which garnered over 6 million streams across all platforms. She first gained attention via social media, after her cover of The Highwomen’s Crowded Table was praised and retweeted by Maren Morris and Amanda Shires.
