Showcasing his powerhouse vocals, and shining a spotlight on our incredible country, Australia, its people, and true Aussie spirit – we at Countrytown are elated to bring you the music video for Sing Australia by Jason Owen in this exclusive premiere.

Jason shared on Facebook, “[Sing Australia] was originally recorded by John Denver in the late 80s for the Bi Centenary and I’ve been lucky enough to be able to put my own spin and lyrics to it and record it to acknowledge our incredible country.”

With references to our native flora and fauna, landscapes, the building of a modern nation throughout the decades, as well as Jason’s First Nations heritage, the singer hopes the single will be embraced.

He adds, “Our country has gone through so much, particularly in the last few years with bushfires, floods, drought and the pandemic – it’s been a very challenging and divisive time. We need positive, uplifting songs more than ever about the things we can be proud of which make this such a great nation – namely our incredible people and the natural beauty of our land. With all that’s gone on, I think it’s easy to forget that we still live in one of the best countries on earth, and that there’s much to look forward to given the lessons we’ve all learnt about tolerance, unification and helping others. Hopefully people across the nation everywhere will be able to sing this song together as one.”

Most of the music for the song was shot in Albert – Jason’s tiny hometown in Central West NSW where he grew up as the only child amongst just 12 townsfolk. It also features iconic Aussie landscapes, the Sydney Opera House and footage from Jason’s most recent charity road trip.

Bursting onto the Australian music scene in 2012 as runner-up of X-Factor, Jason is one of Australia’s most popular young country music stars. His debut album, Life Is A Highway reached number one on the ARIA Country Chart and number five on the Australian Top 20 All Genre ARIA Chart.

He has since released Friday Night, featuring his first original hit Damn Right; Proud, his first all-originals album celebrating his First Nations background; Jason Owen Sings John Denver: The 20th Anniversary; and Jason Owen Sings John Denver: The Acoustic Sessions which debuted at number one on the ARIA Country Music Charts. He has been nominated for five major music awards including Golden Guitars and CMC Awards.

In 2019, Jason founded his own charity, Doin It For Rural Aussie Kids, supporting regional and isolated children. For his efforts, he won the prestigious 2021 NSW/ACT Young Achiever Award for Community Service and the People’s Choice Award, and was also the most nominated entrant in the 2021 competition. He also teamed with country music legend, James Blundell covering Cat Steven’s 1970 smash hit, Father and Son, with proceeds of the single going towards 2021’s toy run fund for Owen’s charity. The duet is currently a finalist in the 2021 Golden Medallion Media Awards for ‘National Collaboration of the Year Award’.

Jason has also participated in numerous appeals including Telethon Drought, Telethon Children’s Hospital, Cancer Golf Day, Kids Cancer Golf Day, donated two show profits to Burrumbuttock Hay Runners, donated song profits to Sir Ivan Bushfire Appeal and supported charities and businesses in towns toured.
