Cowgirl For Christmas by Drake Milligan – Song of the Day

It’s the most wonderful time of the year – and I don’t mean Christmas, I mean that magical month where we can blast holiday music and no one can judge us for it! Because, let’s face it, who doesn’t love Christmas music all year round?! This December, we are going to be adding our Songs of the Day to our very special Countrytown Christmas Playlist, complete with re-imagined country-style holiday classics as well as what are sure to be new festive favourites!

Drake Milligan expertly showcases his aptitude for storytelling and charm in his new honky tonk, western-inspired holiday groove, Cowgirl For Christmas, that he co-wrote with producer Brandon Hood. It's our festive Song of the Day!

Drake says, "I wrote Cowgirl For Christmas to bring you back to the days of the singing cowboys such as Roy Rogers, Gene Autry and Marty Robbins. We based this video off one of my favourite scenes in the classic comedy The Three Amigos, complete with a talking horse."

The music video for the incredibly catchy and campy tune, was directed by Leslie Greif, and finds the Texan and a trio of musicians playing well-dressed cowboys around a campfire. Filled with masterful picking and a frolicking, fun-spirited chorus, this cowboy will gladly hang up his spurs to get a Cowgirl For Christmas.

He released his self-titled debut EP back in July, stacked with five songs all co-written by the country music up-and-comer. Bursting with the sounds of a fervent fiddle and wailing steel guitar amplified by an intoxicatingly rich, new voice, Drake is the embodiment of true, authentic country music.

Also, an accomplished actor, Drake starred as Elvis Presley in the 2017 CMT TV series, Sun Records, an adaptation of the Tony-winning musical Million Dollar Quartet.
