Is Australia ready for a country singer to win a reality singing competition? Australians might have to be because Rockhampton’s Denvah Baker-Moller (known as Denvah) has made the Top 12 of this year’s Australian Idol.

Denvah was one of four artists chosen to progress into the next round of Australian Idol last night, with judges Kyle Sandilands, Marcia Hines and Amy Shark gradually culling the Top 21 this week – four singers went forward as three were eliminated per night.

Last night (20 February), Denvah wowed the judges and the studio audience alike with a unique cover of Ed Sheeran’s Perfect. Like all great country singers, Denvah excels the most in her believability as an artist, and everyone was won over just watching her sing and play an acoustic guitar.

In response to making the Top 12, Denvah shared some delightful behind-the-scenes photos and wrote, “They let the country gurlll into top 12 What an honour it is to do this crazy wild thing with these absolutely stunning, beautiful, amazing humans”.

Denvah previously sang Perfect by P!nk during the group round of Australian Idol, performed a sublime cover of Yellow by Coldplay (Sandilands said he’d send it directly to Coldplay singer Chris Martin), and Pony by Kasey Chambers.

In October, Denvah won the Groundwater Country Music Festival’s KIX-Start competition. Reacting to her win, she wrote on her Instagram Stories that she was “screaming, crying, throwing up” before thanking KIX Country and Groundwater Music Festival for the opportunity. Following her win, she released the single Do Without.

A few months earlier, she was crowned the NAB Gympie Music Muster Talent Search winner. As the winner, she took home an estimated $22,000, which includes career-building opportunities, mentoring, music equipment and a trip to Nashville.

Denvah’s track For Elizabeth was named Countrytown’s Song Of The Day in 2021. For Elizabeth was the fourth single from her debut EP, Just The Beginning, released when she was just 20 years old.

You can watch Denvah on Australian Idol again at 7:30 pm on Channel 7 and 7plus from Sunday to Tuesday.
