CMT Awards Version Of Alanis Morissette's 'You Oughta Know' Hits Spotify

A new version of Alanis Morissette’s classic rock tune, You Oughta Know, has hit Spotify.

The new rendition is a live version performed at the County Music Television (CMT) Music Awards earlier this month. 

A standout performance of the night, the ‘90s music icon Alanis Morissette and rising country music stars Ingrid Andress, Lainey Wilson, Madeline Edwards and Morgan Wade teamed up to perform Morrissette’s iconic hit, You Oughta Know, which reached #4 on the Australian ARIA top 50 Singles Chart in 1995.

The all-star team-up is officially a Spotify Single.

Andress said about the performance in a statement (via Yahoo), “Performing on the CMT Awards with this exceptionally talented group of artists to celebrate the 10th anniversary of CMT’s Next Women of Country program was truly a career highlight.”

She continued, “I’ve always looked up to Alanis for the way she’s masterfully navigated a male-dominated industry by always speaking her mind and never sacrificing her own sound or vision. We all had so much fun performing this song together and are so excited to share it with the world all over again as a Spotify Single.”

Wade said, “Alanis is an iconic songwriter and badass inspiration to women everywhere. It’s such a special experience that I got to sing with her during this performance with Madeline, Ingrid and Lainey. I am thrilled this moment is now going to live a new life as a Spotify Single.”

Alanis Morissette performed You Oughta Know with Foo Fighters last September at the second tribute concert for Taylor Hawkins.

She performed You Oughta Know with the band, a track that rose to fame while Hawkins was touring with her in the mid-‘90s.

For the Jagged Little Pill song, Morissette, Dave Grohl and co were joined by Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith and Jane’s Addiction bassist Chris Chaney, the latter of whom toured with the Canadian singer-songwriter the same time that Hawkins did.
