Morgan Wallen Breaks Records with Mainstream #1

Morgan Wallen has the #1 album following his sold out One Night At A Time tour in Australia. The album of the same name climbed 4-1 in its third week on the ARIA Chart, as its track Last Night remained atop the Countrytown Hot 50 Country Airplay Chart for the second consecutive week. 

The mammoth 36-track collection is the follow-up to 2021’s Dangerous: The Double Album, which also reached #1 on the ARIA Country Albums Chart. In 2021, it was announced as the best-selling album of 2021 across all genres, with a whopping 3.2 million copies sold.

In the same week, Wallen has taken out the prestigious title of ‘Country Artist of the Year’ at the 2023 iHeartRadio Music Awards, presented at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles on March 27, 2023.

Accepting his award via video message while on his One Night At A Time tour in Australia, he said, “I just wanted to say thank you to my fans first and foremost for making this possible. You guys blow my mind every day. Thank you to iHeart for playing my music. Thank you to everyone who stays and continues to be in my corner. I really appreciate it. Thank you for making me the iHeart ‘Country Artist of the Year’, it’s an honour and a privilege.”

Taylor Swift was a major award winner after claiming five trophies in the categories ‘Song of the Year’ and ‘Best Lyrics’ for Anti-Hero, ‘TikTok Bop of the Year’ for Bejeweled, and ‘Favourite Use of a Sample’ for Question…? (which sampled Swift’s Out Of The Woods).

Other winners in the country genre include Cody Johnson, who beat out the likes of Bailey Zimmerman, Elle King, Elvie Shane and Priscilla Block to be crowned ‘Best New Country Artist.’ Cole Swindell’s She Had Me At Heads Carolina was named ‘Country Song of the Year’ and ‘Country Album of the Year’ went to Luke Combs for Growin’ Up.

Keith Urban delivered electrifying performances of Brown Eyes Baby and Somewhere In My Car, while Johnson also performed his smash-hit single ‘Til You Can’t.

“I’ve worked for over 15 years in the country music industry,” Johnson previously said in a statement about the song. “I’ve played just about every bar, honkytonk, nightclub, and festival there is along the way, with the goal always in mind of having my brand of country music played at the level to achieve a #1 hit. God’s timing is perfect, and here we are…. The road to this point hasn’t always been easy or fun, but something worth achieving is rarely an easy task. Thanks to everyone who has had a hand in making 'Til You Can’t such a special song for me and my family. It means the world to us.”
