Lane Pittman Makes Keith Urban’s Top 2 On The Voice Australia

Emerging country artist, Lane Pittman has secured a top two spot in Keith Urban’s team on The Voice Australia, and top eight overall in the singing competition reality series.

He told ABC North West Queensland, “As soon as I auditioned, I knew I wanted Keith Urban to be my coach. Now to think I am in Keith’s top two and in the competition’s top eight is unbelievable.”

Earlier this week, Pittman was pitted (no pun intended) against fellow country artist, Freddie Bailey in “The Battles” round (where coaches cut their team from 6 to 3 by pairing two of their artists to sing the same song as a duet). The duo sang Miley Cyrus and Stevie Nicks’ Edge Of Midnight, with Pittman ultimately winning the battle and advancing straight into the semi-finals.

Sharing an image of their performance, Pittman wrote on Instagram:

“[Freddie] mate if you would've told me that 4 years ago, I would be in a band with you I would've laughed, yet there we were. If you would've told me 3 years ago, we were both gonna audition for The Voice, I would've called you crazy. If you would've even told me 1 year ago, we'd be in the battles together I would've told you to F off. We have been through anything and everything musical together and I wouldn't change it for the bloody world. Love you Bro.”

In the semi-finals, the 8 remaining artists sing different songs for a place in the grand finals. At the end of the episode, coaches are only allowed to pick one artist from their team to advance to the grand finals. The semi-finals are set to air on May 22 on the Seven Network.

At the beginning of Australian season 11, the 15-year-old earned a four-chair turn when he blind auditioned with Luke Combs’ song Even Though I’m Leaving.

At the conclusion of his performance, he shared, “About three, nearly four years ago, my Dad passed away. [Combs’] song kind of hits home with the lyrics and really makes me think of him.”

Urban replied, “That makes all the sense to me right there because when you started singing you had a really beautiful tone and it felt like you really knew what this song is about and then it was a bit shaky with the pitch and everything, but that’s why.”

Pittman released his self-penned debut single, My Way Over You on March 30. Produced by Steve Newton, the track features Laurie Minson on dobro, Pete Denahy on fiddle, Scott Hills on drums and James Gillard on bass.
