More Johnny Cash More Johnny Cash

Legendary country music star June Carter Cash is coming to Paramount+ this month, with the streaming service dropping the first trailer for the upcoming documentary, June.

Featuring talking heads like Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Kacey Musgraves, Robert Duvall, Reese Witherspoon – who won an Academy Award for her portrayal of June Carter Cash in the 2005 James Mangold-directed Johnny Cash biopic Walk The Line – and more, June seems to be the definitive documentary about a music icon who deserves to have her story told.

As well as the star power mentioned above, the June trailer makes use of never-before-seen archival footage of the singer, songwriter, actress and all-around performer. There’s also a snippet of her performing Ring Of Fire, the song she wrote that was later released by her husband, Johnny Cash.

June Carter Cash passed away in April 2003 at age 73. As Billboard reports, she charted once on the Billboard Country Singles Chart in 1971 with her track A Good Man. She found greater chart success with her duets with Cash, including Jackson (released in 1967), Long-Legged Guitar Pickin’ Man (1967) and If I Were A Carpenter (1969). Ring Of Fire also topped the chart for seven weeks in 1963.

June was made in conjunction with Sandbox Productions, Sony Music Entertainment, and Maxine Productions (part of Sony Pictures Television).

John Carter Cash, the only son of June and Johnny, said in a statement (per Deadline), “I am thrilled to share the full story of my mother’s life with the world. Thank you to Sony Music Entertainment and Sandbox Productions for finding a place for it to live and to Paramount+ for giving it a home.”

June is set to land on Australian screens on Wednesday, 17 January, exclusively on Paramount+. Check out the trailer below.

Paramount+ has been stretching further into music documentaries, biopics and music-based television shows, with the streaming service landing the three-part docuseries I Wanna Rock: The ‘80s Metal Dream, Grease: Rise Of The Pink Ladies, and Paper Dolls, a part-fiction series about a manufactured girl group thrust into stardom created by Belinda Chapple, a former member of Bardot.

The streaming service has also reportedly scored a documentary about the nineties boy band era, potentially tracking Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC, New Kids On The Block and more.
