The film's official Instagram account shared a behind the scenes image of Nichols on set. They captioned,  "Joe Nichols, as a wanderer with a guitar, plucking his way through [Murder At Yellowstone City] with good cheer, endless charm, and a few good licks behind the action."

The official synopsis reads:

In a gold-rush boomtown that has gone bust, a prospector strikes gold - and is murdered. Sheriff James Ambrose (Gabriel Byrne) assumes the killer to be a newcomer, a former slave who calls himself Cicero (Isaiah Mustafa), because "he's the only man who doesn't know what I'll do to him." But as it becomes clear that Cicero is innocent, and as the mystery of the prospector's death deepens and puts the whole town in jeopardy, the town's new minister, Thaddeus Murphy (Thomas Jane) must stand up to Sheriff Ambrose and bring the true culprit to justice.

The film also stars Anna Camp, Nat Wolff, Zach McGowan, Emma Kenney and Richard Dreyfuss.

The film will hit US theatres on June 24, 2022.

Nichols released his tenth studio album earlier this year. Good Day For Living features thirteen tracks including a duet with Blake Shelton and a rendition of Chris Janson’s Hawaii On Me.

The entire project is a nod to Nichols’ traditional roots, showcasing his smooth baritone voice.

Nichols said, “For the first time in a long time, I don’t feel any pressure. I’m around great people. I’m the type of person who’s always striving for more, but I’ve reached a place where I’m grateful for everything I’ve accomplished so far. It’s been such a good run. I feel at peace, and that has freed me up to make new music that’s very honest.”
