"I can’t believe how lucky I am to be a dad to such a beautiful little girl!! Both Lyla and Bec are now finally home and doing fantastic after what has been a whirlwind of a few days. She’s the best thing that’s ever happened to us and we would love to thank everyone so much for all the thousands of messages and well wishes. Owen also explained the meaning behind Lyla’s name:

“We have always loved the name Lyla which we actually just found out is an old Persian name meaning ‘born at night’ and ‘dark-haired beauty’. As Lyla was born at 4.14am weighing seven pounds and has a head of dark hair, we reckon it suits her pretty well! We chose Rose in honour of Bec’s Aunty Rose, who passed away at the age of 13 from a heart defect. She is still greatly missed by the family, so the name has a very special meaning to us.”

But Lyla’s birth was not without complications.

Shortly after her birth, Owen shared that “Lyla was rushed to Westmead children’s hospital with a suspected twisted/infected bowel which would have needed immediate surgery. Thankfully she was cleared yesterday and is a happy healthy girl who we welcomed home last night.”

In an interview with 7Life, Owen shared that the couple had been trying to conceive for more than 18 months before getting the happy news.

He also added that going through their first pregnancy during the pandemic wasn’t easy.

“It’s certainly been such a topsy turvy ride for us, there was so much to deal with given it was our first pregnancy, throughout COVID restrictions. I hated feeling so disconnected from Bec and Lyla throughout the pregnancy, as I was shut out from almost all the appointments. That was tough to deal with as a lot of the excitement was denied to us as a couple. I know a lot of other parents have gone through the same thing, though.”

The couple first announced on Father’s Day last year that they were expecting.

Owen proposed to Becy live on Studio 10 in February 2019. They got married in June last year after postponing the wedding three times due to the pandemic

The couple first met in 2016 when Owen says he was “struggling with life.”

He shared, “I had a lot of self-doubt and a lot of negativity surrounding me. I’d suddenly gone from being a service station worker to a country music singer after X Factor in 2012. It was a massive life change that I struggled to deal with over the next few years being loved one moment, hated the next. I actually wanted to walk away from my career and life as wasn’t coping with it. But then I met Bec.”

He added that Becy had a “gift” of reminding him why he had a passion for music in the first place.

Bursting onto the Australian music scene in 2012 as runner-up of X-Factor, Owen is one of Australia’s most popular young country music stars. His debut album, Life Is A Highway reached #1 on the ARIA Country Chart and #5 on the Australian Top 20 All Genre ARIA Chart.

He has since released Friday Night, featuring his first original hit Damn Right; Proud, his first all-originals album celebrating his First Nations background; Jason Owen Sings John Denver: The 20th Anniversary; and Jason Owen Sings John Denver: The Acoustic Sessions which debuted at number one on the ARIA Country Music Charts. He has been nominated for five major music awards including Golden Guitars and CMC Awards.

In 2019, Owen founded his own charity, Doin It For Rural Aussie Kids, supporting regional and isolated children. For his efforts, he won the prestigious 2021 NSW/ACT Young Achiever Award for Community Service and the People’s Choice Award, and was also the most nominated entrant in the 2021 competition. He also teamed with country music legend, James Blundell covering Cat Steven’s 1970 smash hit, Father and Son, with proceeds of the single going towards 2021’s toy run fund for Owen’s charity.

Owen has also participated in numerous appeals including Telethon Drought, Telethon Children’s Hospital, Cancer Golf Day, Kids Cancer Golf Day, donated two show profits to Burrumbuttock Hay Runners, donated song profits to Sir Ivan Bushfire Appeal and supported charities and businesses in towns toured. He’s also entertained audiences around the country including the Tamworth Country Music Festival, CMC Rocks the Hunter, the ACE Awards and the Sony Foundation’s Wharf4Ward event raising funds for youth cancer care.
