American country singer/songwriter Chris Young was arrested on Monday (22 January) in Nashville on three alleged misdemeanour charges.

Billboard reports that Young was arrested on charges of “disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and assaulting an officer”.

His arrest was confirmed after The Tennessean obtained the arrest affidavit. The Looking For You singer was outside the Tin Roof bar in Nashville at 8:30 pm when he began questioning Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission agents who were checking his identification.

According to the report, Young then followed the agents next door to the Dawg House. Young allegedly put his hand out and attempted to stop the agent from moving any further, “stuck” one in the shoulder and reportedly started screaming.

Young was then detained and placed in handcuffs, with the arrest affidavit claiming that the singer “had slurred speech” and “bloodshot, watery eyes.”

Billboard contacted representatives for Chris Young and the Nashville Police Department for comment.

Chris Young is due to land in Australia this March. He’s set to headline CMC Rocks Queensland alongside Lainey Wilson and Tyler Hubbard and perform two theatre dates in Melbourne and Sydney with special guest Bryan Martin. What his arrest means for his touring and album plans is uncertain.

Earlier this month, Young announced the release of his new album, Young Love & Saturday Nights, teasing it as his “largest album to date”. The album will be released on Friday, 22 March – a week after his CMC and solo dates.

The album announcement followed the release of the Young Love & Saturday Nights single and drops ahead of Young’s tour of the same name, which kicks off in Tulsa this April.

Young last toured in Australia in 2015. Since then, he’s released three more albums – the festive It Must Be Christmas in 2016, Losing Sleep in 2017, and Famous Friends in 2021.

In addition to the album releases, Young has amassed 13 #1 singles, 24 Gold and Platinum releases in the US, gained multiple ACM, AMA, CMA and Grammy nominations and won Performance of the Year and Collaborative Video of the Year at the CMT Music Awards.
