Casey Barnes has achieved a new career milestone, being awarded his first-ever ARIA Gold Record for God Took His Time On You.

The Australian singer-songwriter received the award off the back of a sold-out Tamworth Country Music Festival concert, with a representative from independent music company Chugg Music surprising Barnes with the plaque while he was on stage.

In response, Barnes wrote on Instagram this morning, “Last night was one I’ll remember for the rest of my life. Not only did we sell out the Longyard again, but to top it off, I was presented with my first-ever certified ARIA Gold Record for ‘God Took His Time On You’.”

He continued in a statement, “This song started out as a dedication to my wife, but to see it connect with so many people around the world has blown me away.

“Songs like this don’t come along often in your career, so thanks to you guys for embracing it the way you have. This acknowledgment from ARIA is the icing on the cake, means the world and I’m extremely grateful.”

God Took His Time On You, voted the Country Song of the Year at the 2023 Queensland Music Awards, was written by Barnes alongside Nashville songwriters Kaci Brown and Sam Gray. The single comes from his ARIA and Golden Guitar award-winning album, Light It Up.

In addition to the Queensland Music Awards win, Barnes also won the 2023 APRA Award for Most Performed Country Work of the Year with God Took His Time On You.

2023 saw Barnes release the stand-alone singles Summer Nights in February, Boys Like Me in May, Never Give Up On A Good Time in September and Miracles in November. He also won the People’s Choice Award at the Groundwater Country Music Festival and the Australian Award for Best Global Country Artist at the CMAs.

Barnes will celebrate another landmark achievement this April when he performs at the Stagecoach Festival in California. Not only is Barnes the sole Australian artist on the line-up, but he appears alongside absolutely massive names, including Post Malone, Eric Church, Morgan Wallen, Miranda Lambert, Jelly Roll, Willie Nelson and many more.
