On the eve of the final day of the Toyota Tamworth Country Music Festival, an exciting event occurs concurrently with the live music taking over venues across the city: the Golden Guitar Awards.

This year’s award ceremony hosted by Tania Kernaghan and Jason Owen saw James Johnston, The Wolfe Brothers, Travis Collins and the duos of Felicity Urquhart and Josh Cunningham and Brooke McClymont and Adam Eckersley receive the most nominations.

Sean Hanley (Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Franchise Operations at Toyota Australia, the Golden Guitars’ presenting partner) said upon the Golden Guitars nominations announcement last month: “The Toyota Golden Guitar Awards showcases the very best in country music and we’re looking forward to seeing who takes home the awards in January. We wish all nominees the best of luck for this much anticipated, highlighted event.”

Australian country music’s night of nights presented live performances from the nominated artists mentioned above; Troy Cassar-Daley performed a new song for the first time, Luke O’Shea paid tribute to the late Joy McKean, recipient of the first Golden Guitar Award in 1973, while the likes of Max Jackson, The Pleasures and Fanny Lumsden also took to the stage.

Between performances were the awards, where The Wolfe Brothers won three awards – Album of the Year (for Livin’ The Dream), Country Music Capital News Group or Duo of the Year, and Vocal Collaboration of the Year (for Runnin’ The Country with Travis Collins) alongside fellow three-time award winner Brad Cox, who won Contemporary Country Album of the Year (for Acres, with producer Brandon Hood receiving a nod too), Male Artist of the Year and Top-Selling Album of the Year (Acres).
