Mitchell Tenpenny has recorded a new version of his inspirational smash hit, Bucket List, featuring Grammy-nominated Christian artist and former American Idol finalist Danny Gokey.

Tenpenny says, “I’ve been a big fan of Danny’s for a long time, his voice is so incredible. And even though this song has been out for a while now, I felt he could bring the song to the Christian music community, and I knew no one else could do it better. He’s completely changed this song. I’m honoured and grateful he would do this with me.”

Gokey adds, “I love the sentiment of the song and love the lyrics. I hope that people absorb the lyrics and start living life like never before.”

Alongside the release, the pair have released a music video, filmed at the Melrose Church at Fiddlers Grove in Wilson County, Tenn. The film was shot with director Tristan Cusick.

Written by Tenpenny, Chris DeStefano and Laura Veltz, Bucket List was originally released in 2021, and features on Tenpenny’s current EP Midtown Diaries, which was released in September.

Tenpenny originally said of the song, “We all have our own version of what a bucket list is. So, we all started talking about things we wanted to get done before we cross everything off of our list. I sang it that day, but then I lived with it for a while. But it became this song that my manager kept bringing up, so here we are. It was written for this time, even though it wasn’t written in this time.”

Tenpenny was born and raised in Nashville, beginning his career writing songs for other artists. He released his debut album and single of the same name, Black Crow in 2015. He followed that up with his 2017 EP, Linden Ave as well as his self-titled EP and second album, Telling All My Secrets in 2018, which peaked at number five on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart. He also has two holiday releases – Neon Christmas (2020) and Naughty List (2021).

Last year, Tenpenny teamed with Chris Young for At The End Of A Bar (read more here) and RaeLynn on Get That All The Time off her second studio album, Baytown. He was also nominated for ‘New Male Artist of the Year’ at the ACM Awards and ‘Breakthrough Video’ (Drunk Me) at the CMT Music Awards, both in 2019.
