Luke Bryan honours his late older brother Chris, who was tragically killed in a car accident in 1996, in a new song called Songs You Never Heard. The singer pulls from his formative years of songs they used to listen to together, and songs that Chris would have loved by never got a chance to hear. He also wonders if he’d be on the road, touring alongside him and the band, guaranteed to be Luke’s #1 fan.

Run by George Strait is one he says his brother would have loved, but, by then – as the first verse points out – Chris had already passed. He sings:

I heard "Run" on the radio yesterday / Got me thinking 'bout how much you love George Strait
/ But by the time the airwaves ever played that song / You were already gone.

Bryan also names artists Alan Jackson, Keith Whitley, Jamey Johnson, Tracy Lawrence and Clint Black in the new song.

Bryan says, “I’ve written songs through the years that really talk about me losing my brother, but I don’t think any one of them is as good as how this one describes who he was. He was a huge country music fan and I just think about how amazing it would be to have him in my life, and how watching him react to all of these songs, and watching him react to my career. And the fact we can’t do that, I think really pays tribute to that. There’s a lot of people out there that have lost a sibling and it’ll make them think about that same feeling.”

The heartfelt tune was written with Josh Osborne and Luke Laird for Bryan’s new IMDB docuseries. Luke Bryan: My Dirt Road Diary follows Bryan through the ups and downs, highs and lows, triumphs, and tragedies along the road to unprecedented success. Through original home videos, interviews and personal footage, viewers will get a backstage pass into his life.

The docuseries also touches on the heartbreak of losing two siblings and a brother-in-law, raising their two nieces and nephew, being on the road away from his wife Caroline and two sons, his musical aspirations from an early age, and more. Luke Bryan: My Dirt Road Diary is a five-part series.

Bryan explained in a statement, “The devotion and support of my fans are the reason I have made it this far in my career. Life can be tough, and the past 15 months have been very difficult for everyone. I hope in sharing this raw look into my life that it may be an encouragement to others. Through the heartaches, triumphs can come.”
