Keith Urban Leads Country Genre At 2021 ARIA Award Nominations

The Australia Recording Industry Association has today announced the full list of nominees for the 2021 ARIA Awards, with some of the biggest names in Australian and Intentional country music receiving nods.

For the second time in ARIA Awards history, the nominees were announced via a YouTube premiere, which can be viewed here and is available to stream free on 9Now.

Keith Urban scored the most nominations of any country artist this year. As well as being nominated for ‘Best Artist’, he is also competing against himself in the ‘Song Of The Year’ category, with his collaborative smash hits, Love Songs Ain’t For Us with Amy Shark and One Too Many with Pink both receiving nominations.

Brad Cox (My Mind’s Projection), Felicity Urquhart and Josh Cunningham (The Song Club), Shane Nicholson (Living In Colour), The Wolfe Brothers (Kids On Cassette) and Troy Cassar-Daley (The World Today) will all vie for ‘Best Country Album’.

Nicholson took home the award in 2008 (Rattlin’ Bones with Kasey Chambers), 2013 (Wreck & Run with Chambers) and 2015 (Hell Breaks Loose), respectively. He previously has scored a further eight nominations in various categories. Cassar-Daley has also won the award four times – Beyond The Dancing (1995), Big River (2000), Brighter Day (2006) and I Love This Place (2009) – and has been nominated twelve times in total.

The Wolfe Brothers and Urquhart are both two-time nominees. The Wolfe Brothers’ This Crazy Life (2016) and Country Heart (2018), and Urquhart’s Landing Lights (2009) and Frozen Rabbit (2019) are all previous nominees. Cunningham is also an ARIA winner for his involvement with The Waifs. This is Cox’s first ARIA nomination.

Amber Lawrence’s The Kids Gone Country 2 – Fun For All The Family is nominated for ‘Best Children’s Album’.  The album scored an AIR Award nomination earlier this year, losing out to Thoughtful Songs For Little People by Teeny Tiny Stevies in August.

Taylor Swift has also scored a nod for ‘Best Intentional Artist’ for her album, evermore. She was nominated in the same category last year with its sister record, folklore.

The winners will be announced on Wednesday 24th November 2021 to be broadcast from Sydney, Australia and the world on YouTube, and on 9Now.
