Jervis Bay uncoved with Jason Lee - My CountryTown

Regional towns are in our blood here at CountryTown! From Jervis Bay to Beagle Bay. We love the pubs, the people and the places that make Australia tick. But most of all, we love the amazing country musicians our regional centres produce, like Jason Lee.

Jason Lee is something of a veteran in the Australian Country music scene, with a career spanning over 15 years. With number one singles, appearances at events, including the Tamworth Country Music Festival, and a second full album on the way, Jason has released his newest single She’s In It.

To get to know Jason Lee a bit, we’ve asked what he loves about his hometown, Jervis Bay!

1 - The Bioluminescence

Just a short distance from where I live, the sea sparkles with glow in the dark plankton, which is one of the world’s natural wonders. Living here and getting to see these types of things is awesome. It’s so pretty to see. Before moving to Jervis Bay, I didn’t know any of this existed. As well as us locals, tourists are drawn to the beaches to photograph the glowing displays.

2 - The Stone Grill

This restaurant in Huskisson has the nicest views and warmest atmosphere you could wish for. The staff are always welcoming and kind hearted, and the cooks are just the best. I visit here often. It has become one of my favourites for dinner dates with my wife, and is the place I chose for dinner before the proposal.

3 - White Sands Park Beach

Also known as Shark Net Beach, is a place which will always hold a special place in my heart. After a birthday dinner date at the Stone Grill, my partner and I took a stroll to walk off the lush steak we’d had, and, anxiously finding somewhere to pop the question, it seemed like no better place than here to ask Mrs Catherine to marry me. Just on dusk in summer, gazing up at the moon coming through, I drew a massive heart in the white sand, with the words, Will You Marry Me? anxiously praying the tide didn’t come in and asked Catherine to check it out as I fell to my knee ? Oh it was a YES, YES, YES!

4 - Angels Bayside Cafe

is not just your usual corner cafe for coffee and snacks when visiting our town. They also offer light-to-full course meals and beverages. Although on the Main Street and an outdoor seated area, on most weekends, especially during summer and the hotter months, you can be sure to catch some of the best musicians in town perform, including myself. I love performing here to a small intimate crowd. With gorgeous views and live music what more can you ask for?!

5 - The Ruined Lighthouse

Fairly close to home and perched on the edge of spectacular cliffs between Booderee National Park and the sea, the lighthouse is a fantastic place to watch whale migrations and take the family to peace out as we do. It is heritage-listed, and the vibe is sensational. It is the most significant European historic site in Booderee National Park. In the 19th century, shipwrecks were numerous along the Wreck Bay coast and unfortunately, the lighthouse did not halt the toll. It was replaced by Point Perpendicular Lighthouse, which you can see from Shark Net Beach and Angels Bayside Cafe.
