Our Song of the day is the debut single by Mackay-based, emerging singer-songwriter, Leyon Milner. Leyon wrote He’s Too Good For You with Allan Caswell at the CMAA Academy of Country Music junior course in 2017, with the song being a new take on the usual ‘she’s too good for you’ theme.

He says, “It’s a fictional story and I just wanted to write a fun song telling a girl that my mate was too good for her. This is a song I want people to have some fun with. I was lucky that I’d already met Allan, so I felt comfortable with him. I was throwing ideas at him and he always had the right take on them.”

Although this is his debut single, Leyon has already been slated as one of the most exciting, emerging songwriting talents, winning the 2021 APRA ‘Song of the Year’ Golden Guitar with Shane Nicholson’s The High Price Of Surviving, which he co-wrote with the multi-award-winning singer-songwriter and producer.

Leyon’s main introduction to country music came from his brother, Heath Milner, who has been in the national spotlight since his high-profile audition on The Voice. Following his attendance at the CMAA Academy of Country Music, Leyon went on to win the 2018 Gympie Talent Search and attended the DAG Songwriters’ Retreat.

Leyon’s own original music spans genres having written Americana, Alternative and traditional country styles, while dipping his toe into Blues. He also has experience on the road, having played and toured bass guitar for fellow Golden Guitar winner, Blake O’Connor early in 2020, and previously toured with Zoey Mills and gigged with many others.

Leyon says, “I want to show everyone I exist as a singer-songwriter and to get my name out there more. This will be the first of three singles, then I’m planning for an EP released late next year.”
