For a second time, the 2021 Billboard Music Award nominations are once again dominated by country music. Newcomer, Gabby Barrett leads in country music.

For a second time, the Billboard Music Award nominations are once again dominated by country music. Following being crowned as 'New Female Artist of the Year' at ACM Awards earlier this month, newcomer Gabby Barrett leads in country music, having earned nine nominations this year.

In addition to her nominations in country-specific categories including ‘Top Country Female Artist’, ‘Top Country Artist’, ‘Top Country Song’ and ‘Top Country Album’ for Goldmine, she also earned all-genre nominations with a spot in ‘Top New Artist’. Her duet single I Hope featuring Charlie Puth is up for 'Top Hot 100 Song', 'Top Selling Song', 'Top Radio Song' and the fan-voted, 'Top Collaboration.'

Carrie Underwood, Dan + Shay, Taylor Swift and Morgan Wallen are also among the country artists nominated in all-genre or non-country specific 2021 Billboard Music Awards categories.

However, despite his six nominations, disgraced country artist Wallen will not participate.

According to a statement from the BBMAs, “Morgan Wallen is a finalist this year based on charting. As his recent conduct does not align with our core values, we will not be including him on the show in any capacity (performing, presenting, accepting). It is heartening and encouraging to hear that Morgan is taking steps in his anti-racist journey and starting to do some meaningful work. We plan to evaluate his progress and will consider his participation in future shows.”

Wallen is up for ‘Top Male Country Artist’, ‘Top Country Artist’, ‘Top Country Album’ and the all-genre ‘Top Song Sales Artist’ against Justin Bieber, BTS, Megan Thee Stallion and The Weekend. He is also a finalist twice in the ‘Top Country Song’ category for Chasin’ You and More Than My Hometown off his Dangerous: The Double Album, which spent 12 weeks at number one on the Top Country Albums chart and 10 weeks atop the all-genre Billboard 200 chart.

Other multiple country nominees include Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift, Dan + Shay, Luke Combs and Chris Stapleton. Sam Hunt, Jason Aldean, Lee Brice, Kane Brown, Maren Morris, Florida Georgia Line and Maddie & Tae each received a single nomination.

Check out the full rundown of country nominations, and which country artists are fighting for the genre in the all-genre categories at the bottom of the article.
