Front Deck Boom Box: Krystal Cameron

25 May 2021 | 9:09 am | Mallory Arbour

We caught up with Melbourne-based country singer-songwriter, Krystal Cameron to find out what songs she’s listening to for this week’s Front Deck Boom Box.

Melbourne-based country singer-songwriter, Krystal Cameron’s new single, Wanted the Whiskey, landed at #1 on the iTunes Country Songs chart. Recorded with fellow country artist and producer, Jake Davey at Jake Davey Studios, Wanted the Whiskey carries a strong sense of nostalgia, recalling a failed romantic relationship and exploring common modern dating themes of wasted time and confusion. The track is a follow up to her debut single, Bad Taste, which was released last year and debuted at #2 on iTunes.

We caught up with Krystal to find out what songs she’s listening to for this week’s Front Deck Boom Box.

She’s Mine - Lauren Weintraub

I found this song one day on Tiktok and it’s become an absolute staple in my ‘songs to scream in the car’ playlist (we all have one of those, right?). There are so many songs out there written about relationship jealousy, but this one is written from such an interesting perspective that drew me in from the first time I heard it. If this doesn’t end up on my top songs of 2021, I will be very surprised because I definitely haven’t skipped it once yet!

The Way She Does - Jake Davey

Yes, Jake is my producer - but he truly is one super talented human being. This is my favourite one of his songs so far and I even showed it to my Nan -- so that’s how you know I love it! It’s a super catchy track that gets stuck in my head all the time and the music video is hilarious!

Talk About - Seaforth

This has been on high rotation for me since it came out - it’s such a high energy track that I can’t help but sing at the top of my lungs. It is consistently the first song I play whenever I need to wake myself up or get myself into a happy, hyped mood! Seaforth are one of my favourite Aussie acts and I love not only their music but their hilarious social media presence.

Everybody (Backstreet’s Back) - Backstreet Boys

As a 90s kid, I feel like there’s always going to be a big a soft spot for boybands; but recently this song has played almost every single time I’ve been with my best friend and now it has created a new set of memories to my childhood … those new memories being our dorky dance moves and her rolling her eyes every time I enthusiastically sing the backing track layers in public (whoops). This song is an essential party pump up jam and I think it’ll be one of my go-to’s for life.

I Go Back To You - Josh Kerr

I’m a sucker for songs that hit you in the feels and Josh Kerr honestly gives me those kind of goosebumps with almost every track. This one is my current favourite - his ability to story tell always amazes me, but his voice is so emotive in this song, it punches me in the gut (in the best way!!) I love songs that I can personally relate to and as someone who writes a lot about failed romance, this one hits hard.
