We caught up with Nashville-based singer, Casi Joy to find out what songs she’s listening to for this week’s Front Deck Boom Box.

With over 40 million video views online, Casi Joy has captured the attention of music fans around the globe. In 2017, she wowed the coaches on The Voice with her rendition of LeAnn RimesBlue, garnering a highly coveted four-chair turn. Since then, she's shared the stage with Maren Morris, Keith Urban, Carly Pearce, Dustin Lynch and LOCASH among others.

Performing professionally since the age of five, the 31-year-old moved to Nashville in 2015 and released her debut EP, Love On Repeat shortly after. She released an covers album, cleverly titled Covered In Joy in 2018, which features songs like Jolene, Proud Mary, Unchained Melody, Stand By Your Man and others. The Bright Side EP followed in 2019, along with a handful of singles, including The Money and Namaste. Melding traditional country and modern pop influences, she recently released her latest single, Senses Fail. Also, her festive single Winter Wonderland is out later this week.

We caught up with Casi to find out what songs she’s listening to for this week’s Front Deck Boom Box.

Lady May – Tyler Childers

You could say I’ve been a little obsessed with Tyler Childers lately, and the main song I’ve been totally into is Lady May. I love how raw the production is, letting his lyrics really shine. His sentiment in this song is so sweet and honest, and what I think every girl would want to hear! It’s definitely the perfect song for dancing in the kitchen!

Right on Time – Brandi Carlile

I’m so into Brandi’s new album, but the first track Right on Time just feels so personal. The chord progression matches exactly the feeling she’s conveying with the lyrics, and I’m always so inspired by songwriters who can do that. I tend to lean toward slower songs that really tug at your heart, so this one’s been on repeat lately!

Camera Roll – Kacey Musgraves

Holy moly, this song is like a gut punch that I just have to keep listening to! Definitely on my list of “songs I wish I wrote.” The lyrics are genius, and I think we’re all guilty of looking back at pictures we know are just going to hurt us. The song has such a nostalgic, conversational vibe that is so honest. Kacey’s music/writing is always a reminder that we can be totally vulnerable, honest, and authentic, and we don’t have to always write “in a box.” I love that she’s always toeing the line, taking chances, and evolving with each album.

Come Back as a Country Boy – Blake Shelton

This song is so smooth, and just has this outlaw, driving on a dirt road feel to it. What I love is the first time I heard it, some of the melodies totally threw me, and didn’t go where I would have guessed! It’s cool when songs take your ears to new places, and challenge the “typical” melodies we get used to. And I, of course, love anything my Voice coach puts out! Team Blake for life!

I Can’t – Caitlyn Smith (featuring Old Dominion)

I love anything by either of these artists, so when I saw they did a duet, I knew it would be a banger with incredible lyrics! The instrumentation totally embodies the feeling the lyrics convey, and just makes you sway throughout the song. I love how crisp their vocals are in this mix, especially with the incredible performance they did.
