More Matt Ward More Matt Ward

Hot off the release of his latest EP, The Way That I Was Meant To Be, Matt Ward is already greeting us back into his sonic narrative with the new single, Come Home Safe

Between quality and quantity, it’s fair to say the country idol can do both - Ward only released his last EP in November and is back again with a new song that is bound to become a hit.

Ward already has two #1 ARIA albums in his long list of achievements and has had a prosperous career in the country genre since 2016. He might soon add a third ARIA album to his belt, as Come Home Safe marks the first single for his upcoming third album, The Long Way Home, set to be released on Friday, 6 September.

The brand-new single can be heard first right here on Countrytown, ahead of its official release tomorrow.

“I love this track so much—the first single from my third album, The Long Way Home,” Ward passionately states.

He says the theme of the song is about trying to seek out happiness in a new location, only to realise that happiness is already in front of you.

Come Home Safe is a song about yearning for somewhere new when everything you love may just be right at home. A rambling man himself, Matt Ward has been everywhere, from live venues across our major cities as a musician to the remotest corners of the land in his other profession as an environmental conservationist. If anyone knows the importance of home, it’s Matt Ward.

In fact, we actually do get to see Ward’s home in the track’s film clip:

“I had an amazing time filming the video on my own farm, with special cameos from my dog Shooter, horse Sam and, of course, my beautiful partner.”

Last year, Ward established the record label Heartland Music Australia to “create a safe, dedicated and long-term home for Australian Country and Americana songwriters in Australia.”

The first artists to formally join the project were lauded singer-songwriters Amber Rae Slade (US/Tas), Nathan Seeckts (Vic), and Harvey Russel (NSW).
