Bundaberg-based singer Keely Ellen has shared her debut single, Red Head, which receives its video premiere exclusively on Countrytown today.

Keely Ellen may be just releasing her first single today, but she’s no newcomer to music. At just 17 years old, she began singing at eight years old and picked up a guitar at 10.

In her debut music video, the singer explores through fields, drives a car, plays an acoustic guitar in front of the vehicle, and sings in front of a bright red wall. Keely Ellen's debut music video shows her in her element – an affirmative, confident singer-songwriter with something to say.

Ellen’s debut music video was shot by Jazmyn Produces around Bundaberg on Ellen’s family friend's property. Jazmyn is also a musician and has worked with some of Countrytown’s favourite artists, including Melody Moko, Vixens Of Fall, Beth Lucas, Hayley Marsten, Chloe Styler and Natalie Henry.

You can watch the music video for Red Head below.

Ellen and fellow country singer Katrina Burgoyne co-wrote Red Head two or three years ago and is Ellen’s own personal self-empowerment anthem of acceptance and living as an individual. Reflecting on her experiences of being bullied because of her hair colour, Ellen found a way to overcome adversity and share a song that any audience can relate to.

“I've been wanting to do this for ages, and it's all finally coming together,” Ellen explained in a statement. “Red Head is a song that really sums me up well, putting my character across and allowing me to introduce myself through my music.”

Ellen has been wowing audiences since (at least) 2021, taking home the coveted Gladstone Busking Championships with her engaging stage presence and undeniable talent. She won the top prize at Broxburn in 2020, finished as a semi-finalist at the Gympie Music Muster Talent Search and came second in the Mount Franklin Tamworth competition.

In 2022, she won the Ekka competition and earned a life-changing Troy Cassar-Daley Scholarship to attend the esteemed Academy of Country Music in Tamworth. Last year, she won the Country on Keppel Peter Blundell Memorial Talent Search.

With all those accolades under her belt and experience touring with The Wolfe Brothers, Travis Collins and Catherine Britt (and mentorship from Lyn Bowtell), it’s safe to say that the future is bright – and just beginning – for Keely Ellen.
