Matt Ward's next single, Too Drunk To Two Step (out September 30 as a single), reveals yet another new angle to his songwriting and sound, showcasing his versatility and the ability to poetically and sonically blend classic and contemporary musical styles. His wide-ranging influences run from Willie Nelson, Dale Watson, Colter Wall and Robert Ellis, to Neil Young, Steve Earle and Paul Kelly.

As he did with the earlier single Old Ground, the Adelaide Americana/alt-country songwriter joins forces with Austin-based Bonnie Montgomery to sing Too Drunk To Two Step from his second album, If I Was In Dallas Tonight, for some toe-tapping honky tonk meets dive bar country music.

"Too Drunk To Two Step is a tongue-in-cheek song about an old time country music fan and drinker who sits in his dive bar for hours on end (in either Texas or Australia), whilst Johnny Come Lately(s) move through his bar trying to make their way on the dance floor, country music or otherwise," explains Matt. "Part self-deprecating, part social commentary, but primarily just a fun song that if you're not too drunk yourself - you can definitely two step to!"

Too Drunk To Two Step was produced by Dave Percefull, with some of Texas’ finest musicians, at yellow DOG Studios in Wimberley, Texas, where acclaimed artists such as Colter Wall and Mike & The Moonpies have recorded. The album is a collection of songs inspired by Matt's travels between Australia and Texas seeking music, country, and adventure.

Matt is like a good country song – genuine, steeped in experience and leaving no stone unturned in search for the truth of the land, the road and the heart. Coming from a long line of family boot makers and with his own years of experience in land management across the outback, he delivers country in spades, breaking hearts with classic waltzes and kicking down doors with energetic outlaw barnstormers.

His debut album Heartland, a true story of love, loss and redemption, defied expectations to secure the ARIA #1 Australian Country album spot, debuted at #1 on iTunes Country Album charts and has racked up over 170,000 streams worldwide. Matt has showcased for Sounds Australia at Nashville’s Americanafest and was selected to perform at one of the biggest country festivals in Australia, the Groundwater Country Music Festival.

Combined with his authenticity as a storyteller and genuineness as a person, Matt is ready for country music’s biggest stages with spirited live performances, strong storytelling and most importantly, world-class country songs.
