Fresh off releasing his brand new single, A Different Kind Of Year, Canadian country-rock singer Cory Marks has showcased a different range of his skills: cooking.

Today, Marks shares his recipe for his Power Breakfast (pictured above), a high-protein breakfast he hopes his fans will love to make (and eat!) as much as he does.

On A Different Kind Of Year, Marks conjures the Australian summer with lines like: “Couldn’t wait for the weekend to call my friends/ Have ‘em all over, let the party begin/ I’ll fire up the grill, and you just have to bring the beer”.

The single is from his forthcoming second album, due for release later this year – the song was unveiled via Better Noise Music. For A Different Kind Of Year, he teamed up with longtime collaborator Kevin Churko (Ozzy Osbourne, Five Finger Death Punch, Shania Twain).

“It's the start of a brand-new year, a chance for you to start fresh, refocus and see what is really important in this life,” Marks said in a press release. “This new song is all about good times, re-connecting with family and friends... committing to yourself to make things better in the year ahead and not taking those special things for granted.

“It’s a country song for country people, so cheers. Here’s to you, here’s to me and a different kind of year!”

Marks mixes country with hard-hitting rock music. Having learned to play the drums at ten, he banged along to songs by Deep Purple, Ozzy Osbourne, and Rush. But he was also listening to his parents’ country records, developing a deep appreciation for outlaws like Waylon Jennings and Merle Haggard.

Those two genres — classic country and amped-up rock — would eventually join forces in Marks’ own music, earning him a string of gigs with heavyweights like Toby Keith and Brantley Gilbert along the way.

THE COUNTRYTOWN COOKOFF

“The Marks Power Breakfast” by Cory Marks

This is a great high-protein breakfast that I love to make and eat. I don’t always add the bagel, but we had some, so I toasted one up and added some butter. It’s essentially a glorified omelette, and here’s how I make it!

Get a pan fired up and get some butter in there. Add about a half tablespoon of chopped garlic, a handful of spinach, and chopped red onions. Let all that cook up for about 4-5 minutes. Then, crack two eggs over the top and let that cook again for another 4-5 minutes.

Add shredded cheese, sprinkle some parmesan until it’s melted, then cut it in half. I had some leftover maple ham, so I cooked it up for about 45 seconds on each side and threw it on top of the buttered bagel. The other half you eat like an omelette.

Wash it down with a glass of orange juice - but not just any kind. In this glass of OJ, I squeezed some fresh lemon, a tablespoon of fresh turmeric, and another pure ginger. Mix it all up, and there you have it. The Marks power breakfast!
