'I Won't Do This Again' is a fun look at lockdown, backing yourself, and being confident enough not to make the same mistakes again as you learn from life experience.

Hunter Valley singer-songwriter, Lyn Bowtell’s new single, I Won’t Do That Again has an infectious beat that’s hard to ignore and will have you up and dancing in no time. We have your first look at the equally infectious music video in this exclusive premiere!

A co-write with fellow award-winning artist Kevin Bennett, I Won’t Do That Again was born out of a guitar riff that Kevin played and became a song about getting out of lockdown, both physically and mentally. As well as having a serious message, I Won’t Do That Again is also about poking fun at yourself and has a positive message of getting back onto your feet.

Lyn says, “It’s good not to take yourself too seriously, and anytime the song starts, I find myself just tapping my feet, moving my body and it definitely has that impact of making you want to dance. I hope when people listen to it, they might have a bit of a smile and feel good about themselves.”

The music video, shot by award-winning director Duncan Toombs from The Filmery, continues the fun theme of the track, with plenty of creative input from Lyn.

She adds, “I had this crazy idea of having typists in a typing pool who were stuck in a rut and took it to Duncan, and he loved it. We got some dancers to come along and get involved and we had such a fun day. The song’s about breaking free of old habits and old mindsets that are keeping us back, and the clip represents it very well in a very fun way.”

I Won’t Do That Again is the first single lifted from Lyn’s upcoming Shane Nicholson produced album, Wiser, due for release on May 13. Wiser will be her fourth album release, following Heart’s In The Country (2002), Secret Songs (2012) and Heart of Sorrow (2014).

After successfully auditioning for The Voice Australia in 2017, in which she joined Boy George’s team, she released a six-track EP called Calling You. The EP included the songs Fields of Gold and Let It Be, which she had performed on the singing competition television series. It debuted at #2 on the ARIA Top 20 Australian Artist Country Albums Chart and #13 on the ARIA Top 40 Country Albums Chart.

Since 2015, Lyn has been focused on her trio project Bennett Bowtell & Urquhart with Bennett and Felicity Urquhart. Their self-titled debut album, released the following year, went on to win the ‘Alternative Country Album of the Year’ Golden Guitar award in 2017. They took home the award for ‘Group or Duo of the Year’ that same year, as well as ‘Vocal Collaboration of the Year’ for the song Every Hello (featuring the late Karl Brodie) in 2019.

The former Toyota Star Maker winner is also the multi-nominee and recipient of a total of nine Golden Guitar awards, including for collaborations with Catherine Britt, Beccy Cole and Luke O’Shea. Lyn recently teamed up with Logan Hoswell on the friendship anthem Sister In Song. We premiered the track here in August 2021.

Lyn’s next show is at the re-imagined Tamworth Country Music Festival, on April 24 at The Longyard. From May onwards, she hits the road on a tour through NSW, Queensland, Victoria and South Australia.
