Drivin’ To You by rising country artist, Hudson Rose is a catchy country pop song with an outlaw vibe – and Countrytown is elated to bring you the accompanying music video in this exclusive premiere. It's also our Song of the Day!

Co-written and produced by Michael Paynter and Michael Delorenzis, Drivin’ To You is about trying to stop yourself from getting in the car to go somewhere you know you shouldn’t go and the inner struggles that go with that - in this case it’s being drawn to the classic ‘bad boy’.

Hudson says, “The idea for this song came from a short video I saw where a girl said the only thing that could stop her from going to see a guy was having a drink, because then she can’t drive. I could relate to this as we all have things, we know we shouldn’t do or places we shouldn’t go, but for some reason we are drawn to still do it.”

The track takes references from Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn – drawing inspiration from the old classic country elements and inflections in the voice, One Republic – incorporating new, modern sounds with classic elements, and Ed Sheeran – particularly his new album = – driving beats and catchy lyrics.

Hudson says the music video, “represents the struggle when you are wanting the ‘bad boy’, you’ve reconciled this with yourself but there is still the push/pull within of constantly wondering if it really was the right choice. Constantly living in ‘what ifs’. To keep yourself away you need distractions – if I drink I can’t drive, if I hide my keys I can’t drive, if I get help from my mum she will help stop me, anything to stop me from getting in the car.”

Hailing from NSW’s mid north coast, Hudson was given her first guitar for Christmas in 2016, a mini Maton, and just three weeks later, she set off for the Tamworth Country Music Festival. It was at this festival, combined with a trip to see Keith Urban in concert, that she was hooked and set herself a dream of becoming a country music artist.

She went on to impress judges at the 2019 Tamworth Country Music Festival’s busking competition, where she was chosen out of hundreds to perform on the festival’s main stage as part of their Top 10. Hudson returned the following year, to perform across various venues and gained a supporting slot for Queensland band Homegrown, as well as performing with Amber Lawrence.

Her debut single, Never See Me Cry, debuted at #2 on the iTunes chart and reached #17 on the Music Network Country Hot 50 Chart. Her follow-up single, One More Kiss, debuted at #1 on the iTunes Country Charts and was added to full rotation on Triple M Country and ABC Country.

2021 also saw Hudson win the ‘Maureen Wagner Memorial Award’ for ‘Most Promising Young Artist’ in Australian country music and was included on the line-up in the inaugural Road to Roma Country Music Festival in March.
