Carrie Underwood Wins Two 2021 American Music Awards

Carrie Underwood took home two American Music Awards wins, which were announced ahead of the world’s largest fan-voted awards show. During a special TikTok livestream, Underwood was awarded with the trophies for ‘Favourite Female Country Artist’ and ‘Favourite Inspirational Artist’.

Her eighth win for ‘Favourite Female Country Artist’ and her first for ‘Favourite Inspirational Artist’ elevates Underwood to tie Garth Brooks and Justin Bieber as the sixth top AMA winners of all time. With 15 prior wins, including seven for ‘Favourite Female Country Artist’ (2007, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019), Underwood was previously tied with Reba McEntire and Lionel Richie as the seventh highest all-time winners.

Other artists nominated in the ‘Favourite Female Country Artist’ category included Gabby Barrett, Kacey Musgraves, Maren Morris and Miranda Lambert. In the ‘Favourite Inspirational Artist’ category, Underwood was nominated alongside CAIN, Elevation Worship, Lauren Daigle and Zach Williams.

Additionally, Dan + Shay were named ‘Favourite Country Duo or Group’ during the pre-show livestream, beating out Florida Georgia Line, Lady A, Zac Brown Band and Old Dominion.

Barrett and Luke Bryan were also early winners. Barrett took home ‘Favourite Country Album’ (Goldmine) and ‘Favourite Country Song’ (The Good Ones), while Bryan beat out Jason Aldean, Luke Combs, Chris Stapleton and Morgan Wallen in the ‘Favourite Male Country Artist’ category.

Elsewhere, now a 34-time AMA winner, Taylor Swift took home the awards for ‘Favourite Female Pop Artist’ and ‘Favourite Pop Album’ for her number one album, evermore.

The star-studded celebration also included stand-out performances, including Mickey Guyton and Kane Brown. Underwood and Aldean also performed their smash hit duet If I Didn’t Love You, while Walker Hayes made his AMA debut with his catchy viral hit, Fancy Like.
