Blame It On The Double by Cory Marks feat. Tyler Connolly - Song of the Day

Our Song of the Day is the country rockin, boot stomping anthem, Blame It On The Double by Cory Marks featuring Tyler Connolly of Theory of a Deadman and Jason Hook on guitar off the upcoming motion picture soundtrack, The Retaliators, as well as Cory’s latest EP titled Nashville Mornings.

Blame It On The Double lends itself to the anything-can-happen vibe of the underworld presented in the film’s story. Cory also pays tribute to his music idol Merle Haggard with a stunning acoustic live cover of If I Could Only Fly as well as a captivating live version of Who I Am.

Cory says, “I love sharing my music with the world in many shapes and forms. This EP embodies a specific mood, paying tribute to the city of Nashville - the capital of country music - which will always have an influence on my art. And specifically, I’m honoured to be able to sing one of my favourite songs from my favourite artist, Merle Haggard. If I Could Only Fly is one of many beautiful songs by Merle. This one is special to me as it makes me think of my Grandma Maisie and my Papa Al.  My Grandma would listen to this song and think of my Papa when he passed away. And now that they’re both together in heaven, this is like a love letter for them, and to them. I’m sure Merle will let them know when it’s out!”

Mixing country music with the hard-hitting stomp of rock and roll, Cory began playing drums at ten years old. Whenever he wasn't banging along to songs by Deep Purple, Ozzy Osbourne, and Rush, he was listening to his parents' country records, developing a deep appreciation for outlaws like Waylon Jennings and Merle Haggard. Those two genres — classic country and amped-up rock — would eventually join forces in Cory' own music, earning him a string of gigs with heavyweights like Toby Keith and Brantley Gilbert along the way. 

In 2019, his single, Outlaws and Outsiders, which features country music icon Travis Tritt, Ivan Moody of Five Finger Death Punch, and Mick Mars of Motley Crue, was a global hit, receiving more than 33 million streams worldwide, trending near the top of Shazam’s all-genre discovery charts alongside some of the biggest names in music, and already certified gold in Cory’s home country of Canada. He released his critically acclaimed debut album Who I Am in 2020.

The Retaliators is a horror-thriller film, starring Michael Lombardi, Marc Menchaca and Joseph Gatt with special guest appearances by rock music’s biggest names. The soundtrack features Tommy Lee (Motley Crue), Five Finger Death Punch, Papa Roach, The Hu, Ice Nine Kills, Escape The Fate, From Ashes To New and more. Written by Darren Geare and Jeff Allen Geare, the high-octane horror thriller is directed by Samuel Gonzalez Jr. and Bridget Smith.
