Artist of the Week: Tori Forsyth

CountryTown in partnership with iHeartCountry Australia is proud to announce Tori Forsyth as our Artist Of The Week, following the release of her new album, Provlépseis.

“Provlépseis means predictions in Greek,” Tori explains of her new record’s title. “Most of the new album was recorded pre-pandemic and it’s interesting to interpret the lyrics with the benefit of hindsight; where I might not have really known what a few songs meant at the time, I definitely do now … I’m a pretty spiritual person, but I think that just goes to show how important it is to listen to your intuition.”

The new 13-track album allows Tori to be guided by the needs of each individual song – freed from genre expectations. Her long, eclectic list of influences – Stevie Nicks, Nirvana, The Cranberries, The Pretty Reckless and Miley Cyrus – have always informed her songwriting, but, with Provlépseis, Tori fully embraces guitar-driven rock elements, further expanding her sonic palette.

Nothing At All, the fifth track to drop from Provlépseis, follows the singer-songwriter’s previously released singles All For You, Courtney Love, Be Here and Down Below.

Tori says, “Nothing At All is a song about grappling with your mind but still clinging onto hope. I wrote this whilst in Tamworth during festival season from my caravan home. We’d been on the road for a month and it was an incredibly hot day. I remember being super agitated and uncomfortable for more reasons than the heat. I was listening to a lot of Lana del Rey at the time.”

Tori released her debut EP, Black Bird in 2016. Recorded at ARIA and Golden Guitar award-winning singer-songwriter Shane Nicholson’s Sound Hole studio, Black Bird was also engineered by Nicholson, who was then enlisted to produce Tori’s debut album Dawn Of The Dark (2018), as well as Provlépseis.

Furthermore, Tori was nominated in 2017 for ‘CMC New Artist’ and in 2019 for ‘QANTAS New Talent of the Year’, ‘Female Artist of the Year’ and ‘Alt Country Album of the Year’ for Dawn of the Dark at the Toyota Golden Guitar Awards. Previously, she won the 16th Independent Music Award in the alt-country genre.
